Or above lol under RiverBabe.. I had a reaction as well..
YES!!! Use generic triple antibiotic ointment. Neosporin has an ingredient in it not found in the cheap stuff.
YES! I discovered I had an allergy to it after seeing a dermatologist to remove moles on my back. My husband covered the areas where the moles had been with Neosporin and band-aids. A week later I had a follow-up visit with the doctor to see how things were looking. He asked what I had put on the areas. I told him Neosporin. He told me that I had an allergy to Neosporin. I had red rings around all the spots where the moles had been removed. He then said that approximately 10% of the population is allergic to Neosporin.
He then told me to start using either a SINGLE antibiotic ointment or Bactracin (which is a DOUBLE antibiotic ointment). Both are available from most pharmacies.
I'm allergic to it too. As a kid, my my mom would put it on my cuts and my skin would puff up, itch, burn, and it'd get a few red spots. Later on when I was 16, I had a massive rug burn (long story short: I get injuries a lot) and I put a ton on. .. . . . Worst thing ever. I had the same reaction as I did to hemp lotion, it started puffing then burning then tons of itchy red hives all over. By the time I tried washing it off it was pretty well too late. The hives all up and down my arms didn't go away till hours later.
I'm also allergic to certain lotions (like Hemp), seasonal allergies, and certain animals (ferrets, deer, dogs, and cats- when they scratch me). I have no idea what I'm allergic to, so if you have any ideas, feel free to let me know.
For anyone who reads this topic, BE AWARE. Many vaccines, including the flu vaccines, are made with some of the same ingredients that are in Neosporin. They are put in there during manufacturing to prevent contamination with bacteria. If you are allergic to Neosporin, you need to make sure that the person giving you the vaccine knows tis.
It isn't necessarily the antibiotics also. It uses White Petroleum which can cause allergic reactions in some people also, as could several other of the ingredients.
Just an aside, from my post above. I am allergic to the Neosporin Cream (white cream version) but not the Gel for example.
It can take days to manifest, so you won't learn much this way. I only get an allergic reaction if I use enough of it on an open wound. If I only use a small amount on a very small wound, I don't get the reaction. I only recently figured this out and will stop using it.
I just finally put it together a week or so ago that I am extremely allergic to neosporin. I even went to the E.R. once because it got so bad. The doctor said I had cellulitis. This was the worse case I have had but I have since had it a few more times before I realized why it was happening. I would say that in my opinion it is worse than poison oak hands down. Be careful when using Neosporin!!!
I just found out the same thing, blisters, and I put it on a pimple it ate away the skin on my face Neosporin sucks!!!!!!!!
My lips cracked due to very cold weather. I decided to apply Neosporin on them. 10 min later my lips got very swollen. Now they are very hard around the infected area and they doubled in size. Neosporin is sooo bad. I hope no one ever uses it.
I am allergic too! I had a bruise and put some neosporin on it June 2, 2015, shortly afterwards I got a rash all over my face. The ingredients are too strong. I have beautiful skin and use very little make up. Woww, I hope this rash go away soon! :( I will not use it on my face again
I totally agree! and, Doctors are silly, I was twice diagnosed with MRSA, instead of what I really had, which was a neomycin allergy, It takes weeks to heal, and is painful and extremely itchy!!!!
Yup, silly doctors don't know neo reaction to cellulitis (which might very well be a neo reaction. I spent four weeks traveling to an epidemiologist, and carting around a stint in my arm to feed me septra! 25% of people on this earth are allergic to Neomycin!!!
I just want people to realize that with all the c**p they won't sell over the counter, that this stuff is really dangerous. I have now had 4outbreaks, two were diagnosed as MRSA which changed my life forever, because now its part of my record, and I'm treated like I have HIV. The third time,, I had an eye infection, went to the Eye doc, who prescribed me an eye drop that literally peeled the skin off my eyeball. Fourth time, had a small cut on my leg, put triple antibiotic on ot, and two days later, I had this hand sized infection of weeping and bleeding acabs eating at the edges of the wound. It finally hit me! Jesus de Christo, I'm freaking allergic to this stuff, and I never had MRSA! How do you think that makes me feel. Pretty much like I want to get in my car and drive over a doctor. (No, not seriously). Just be careful, doctors don't know everything, and sometimes specialists are only a specialist in what they know. 25% of people ate allergic to over the counter antibiotic cream (anything with neomycin in it) and they still continue to sell it. That absolutely doesn't make sense to me, while I'm still paying off my medical bills for *******MRSA!!!! Aaaahhhhhh!
