Hello everyone, I posted over a year ago on this exact same thread. I am studying to become a naturopathic doctor and I discovered the true source of my problems.

It has NOTHING to do with sunburn, coffee or tea! Especially if many of us exhibit: weeping, tingliness, itching, swelling and extreme dryness that takes several weeks to heal from. These are symptoms of a delayed hypersensitivity reaction and the mast cells are contributing to hyperpigmentation of the lips.

In my case it has to do with diet. Like I stated above, eggs, wheat, soy , dairy cause inflammation and provoke eczema related cheilitis on my lips.

I just recently experienced a flare up due to eating eggs and peanuts and discovered that applying neem oil mixed with vaseline overnight acts as an inflammatory agent and helps reduce alot of the symptoms. There is some research, of you can find it that neem oil is a good alternative to hydrocortisone cream in the treatment for eczema.

In the meantime if you exhibit these symptoms, stay away from substances that will exacerbate the symptoms. I quickly found out that I have to avoid citrus and spicy foods while I have a reaction.

I truly hope this helps anyone who comes across this information, I have been searching for the answer to this since I was in middle school and now I am 25.

Manof god, I just want to thank you for your advice. My lips were turning black and I tried everything to stop it but nothing was working. I even went to my doctor and he didn't know what to do. However, after reading your message about the Tramcinolone, I had to try it for myself. I must say, I started noticing a difference in a couple of days. Now after three weeks of using the ointment, my lips are back to normal. Thank you again for your advice.

The same thing happens to me. It is amazing to see that I am not alone in this. Then also the corners of my mouth begin to split and crack which is very painful. I have a dairy allergy, so anytime I eat anything with egg in it this happens! What did you do to get relief until it healed?

i am suffering the same, however i do smoke and drink not as much of coffee as i do tea. i am going thru a menopausal period and i have recently added a flea bomb into my home, which i think may have triggered my darkened chapped itchy lips and eye lids are sensitive to my normal product. i also have developed eczema around my arms only, which i have been able to control until now. i am perplexed as everyone else, but i am looking forward to the end of the 3 month, as most have stated.

You find it probably is sunburn the only time I get it is after a really bad sunburn and lips go black. You find lip balm will work if you just keep on putting it on for a week or so.

i used Nivea Med Protection SPF15. Very effective overnight, you can see the difference.

I know, I LOVE Burt's Beeswax!!! (Original - Not any of those other flavors, just original) A few years ago (2009) I moved to a really cold country and started getting chapped lips to where they were cracking, it hurt so much. I don't know how it happened but I came across Burt's Beeswax one day and when I tried it, it stinged my lips so much but I just knew deep inside me that it was working. And Honey, a few days later... my lips were soooo soft that I was a fan for life :) I didnt even know a lip balm could do something like that! I buy it at Walmart Anyone reading this... please put aside your favorite carmex, vaseline, chapstick, or whatever... and TRY Burt's continuously for three days.... I am sure you'lll be a fan like me, too :) p.s. winter of 2012 was the coldest for me and when I didn't use any lip balm at all, my lips sort of turned black. This has never happened to me before, which is why I used google and found this page..... I plan on getting some lip balm (Burt's) but thank you so much for the vitamin trick, I'll pick some up aswell as soon as I can get to a Walmart.. My lips have never been black before so I'll be trying everything at the same time lol

Hi! I'm highly allergic to fresh fruits and vegetables. Not reaction when cooked. I get itchy black lips as well and this time it stayed for up to 3months. I noticed that I'm allergic to wine, especially red wine and canned foods. For the past month I cut off fruits, veggies, wine, canned foods and coffee. My skin cleared, my hay-fever is gone and my lips are clearing up. Make a diary of what you take and be observant when getting reaction, look out for that one thing you don't usually eat.

Thank you for sharing that information. You are exactly correct Triamcinolone Acetate cream works great but every time I request it from my doctor, he speaks against it and recommends a steroid injection that's right at $100... That did it I am getting a new doctor.

One must not be sensitive to wool (or lanolin) which I am. Lips are red, burning and itchy this morning again.

This sounds like exactly what is going on with me. Some days better than others. This has been going on for two months without end in sight. My lips are swollen, dark, itchy and dry. When I put on bright lipstick, seems as though my lips soak up the color. I've heard it could be allergies and will not go away until seasons change. Not cute or attractive and I feel people are starring at my lips when talking to me. Help!!
