It has NOTHING to do with sunburn, coffee or tea! Especially if many of us exhibit: weeping, tingliness, itching, swelling and extreme dryness that takes several weeks to heal from. These are symptoms of a delayed hypersensitivity reaction and the mast cells are contributing to hyperpigmentation of the lips.
In my case it has to do with diet. Like I stated above, eggs, wheat, soy , dairy cause inflammation and provoke eczema related cheilitis on my lips.
I just recently experienced a flare up due to eating eggs and peanuts and discovered that applying neem oil mixed with vaseline overnight acts as an inflammatory agent and helps reduce alot of the symptoms. There is some research, of you can find it that neem oil is a good alternative to hydrocortisone cream in the treatment for eczema.
In the meantime if you exhibit these symptoms, stay away from substances that will exacerbate the symptoms. I quickly found out that I have to avoid citrus and spicy foods while I have a reaction.
I truly hope this helps anyone who comes across this information, I have been searching for the answer to this since I was in middle school and now I am 25.
I know, I LOVE Burt's Beeswax!!! (Original - Not any of those other flavors, just original) A few years ago (2009) I moved to a really cold country and started getting chapped lips to where they were cracking, it hurt so much. I don't know how it happened but I came across Burt's Beeswax one day and when I tried it, it stinged my lips so much but I just knew deep inside me that it was working. And Honey, a few days later... my lips were soooo soft that I was a fan for life :) I didnt even know a lip balm could do something like that! I buy it at Walmart Anyone reading this... please put aside your favorite carmex, vaseline, chapstick, or whatever... and TRY Burt's continuously for three days.... I am sure you'lll be a fan like me, too :) p.s. winter of 2012 was the coldest for me and when I didn't use any lip balm at all, my lips sort of turned black. This has never happened to me before, which is why I used google and found this page..... I plan on getting some lip balm (Burt's) but thank you so much for the vitamin trick, I'll pick some up aswell as soon as I can get to a Walmart.. My lips have never been black before so I'll be trying everything at the same time lol
I am experiencing the very symptoms, I suffer from allergies and I am asthmatic not sure what to do or about this. I have tried blistex and campho-phenique...No relief...OTC allergy meds are useless as well.....
Help anyone...
Thank you for sharing that information. You are exactly correct Triamcinolone Acetate cream works great but every time I request it from my doctor, he speaks against it and recommends a steroid injection that's right at $100... That did it I am getting a new doctor.
