I mistakenly hit the thumbs down! This is good advice! I have been dealing with this for the past 6 months and do believe it may be dur to either fungus or eczema. Either way I hate my lips being black but hopeful they will turn back to their normal color!

I would not suggest using carmex because that is what caused my lips to go black and chapped. I put carmex on and then the next moring my lips were swelled up. It was very itchy. The next day it turned black and chapped.

I have noticed that Blistex, multi-vitamins, and anything with SPF 13 or higher causes the exact same reations. I have been experiencing this for years now and the doctor couldn't figure it out. I avoid those things but still get flare ups occasionally but I don't know why.

I also have this from 1 year, no treatment.
I think skin specialists haven't any treatment for this.

I used tea tree oil from the body shop and the peeling lessened and the darkening stopped too. I apply it with qtips and 3-5 drops of tea tree oil.

Hey Guys, My lips just turned black for no reason. They are not cracked and only have a small sensation of burning when I apply lip balms sucha as Carmax, BlissTex and other medicated lip treatments. My lips to feel dry and rub the to put moisturizing conditioning treatments they begin to itch. This all started a week ago. My lips started turning black at the bottom right side and at the lower upper lip and then progressed to the whole bottom lip.

I have the same problem, the only thing I noticed is that I use a liquid makeup cover and after my lips are dry and itchy I have scratched the area but also some of my make up is on my lips in these areas. Trying not use any lipstick, nor scratching, and making sure none of my makeup cover is on my lips, until my lips are healed. Not a fun situation at all

Hi , I have been experiencing this phenomena since the 11yrs old and I am now 20.
It has been an on and off thing that use to occur seasonally and when I say seasonal I mean whenever the seasons would change. First I would feel this unusual tingling feeling that semi burned I noticed my lips would become dry and whenever so I would lick them and the feeling would progress. My lips would turn bright fleshy and swoll up a bit over the nights I notice tiny tiny heat bumps and feel a heating sensation.. Then all a sudden my lips would dry and darken over the next few days to a blackish purple color. Then it would peel over a course of about a month and go to regular.
