Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to treat cancer. These drugs kill cancer cells, but they may also harm normal cells, including cells in the mouth.

Yeah im on chemo now and my teeth rotting more as every week passes. I saw my dentist last week and had some cavities filled. They numbed my jaw and the medicine they numbed it with didnt work so it was a bit painful when they worked on them. I wasnt warned either. But hey id rather stay alive than avoid or stop chemo. J.

Look for any School or University Hospital for help. That's what I'm doing.

Also, due to extensive invasive tongue cancer, I had extensive radiation and chemo. Cavities are actually "popping" out of my normally heathy teeth causing pain and damage. They are suggesting black paste to paint on my teeth that will cease the deterioration and degeneration of my teeth.

A friend of mine is on chemo and has experienced her teeth breaking at and below the gum line. She lost 6 or 7 teeth in less than a month.

My friend wasn't told, she has been loosing 6 or 7 teeth within a month. She asked her doctor if her meds or chemo could cause this and they told her no. Obviously, they don't know or lied. Her teeth just broke, all of a sudden she lost a mouthful. The dentist had to dig out the remains at an obsorbadent cost. I'm going to recommend she see an attorney. Either the insurance or the hospital should pick up the tab.

I had 6 months of intense chemo in 2006 for stage 4 Hodgkin. My teeth are destroyed. I've had 3 extracted and need another 5 or 6 removed. In our local news last summer a school teacher's teeth were destroyed by chemo for breast cancer. She was too ashamed of her teeth to teach anymore and couldn't afford to have them fixed. A local compassionate dentist offered his services for free. Any oncologist that says chemo doesn't destroy your teeth should go back to school or take up bowling or something for,it definitely does destroy them.

I have been dealing with cancer since 2001. I've had successful IMRT Radiation treatment for prostate cancer, been on Gleevec for CML since 7-2001, and Revlimid and Velcade since 2012, then 7-2016. Recently, I had two tooth fracture. I had one crowned, the went to dentist for the other one. Lo and behold, I had two more serious fractures which required quick attention. so, in the past six month, I have had five fractures and oh, receding gums and dry mouth. Today, I had fourth tooth crowned.

Doctors don't know! They read their books but every body is different. Doctors used to believe that leeches were the only cure, powdered milk was better than breast milk, every fanny should be shaved before giving birth and the list goes on and on. I believe that we should listen, read and make decisions ourselves. Some doctors believe they know it all - predominantly men, probably the reason. I'm 42 on my last chemo and often make my own decisions, double check they have me on the other list etc. Some of these Drs fresh out of uni debating which area to choose - remember to them we're just a number- listen, read and double check the words that they read out. Cancer sucks!

I also feel your pain !!! I am in remission but was diagnosed with advanced stage 3 hodgkins lymphoma in 2014 . I had a few cavities but fir the most part took very good care of my teeth because that is my worst fear to loose them. I have so many issues now with them im afraid the damage can not reversed and ill lose my teeth. I can also notice the change in my mouth when i eat certain foods. This sucks and we all should be told every pro and con of any treatment our doctors recommend we do.

I now look like jim carry in Dumb and Dumber. Oh and they didn't mention anything to me about my teeth either b4 having chemo but I am grateful for saving my life but it is ashamed to come this far with having to feel ugly all over again
