I have enterococal infection of endocardium. Three years ago my heart valve was replaced with artificial one. Everything was ok, but I suddenly got high temperature that wouldnt go away and after the analysis it was determined that I have endocarditis. Chloramphenicol vs Vancomycin to treat enterococcus spp.? Will that be effective?
I think that you should leave the choice of medications to your doctor, because endocarditis is a very severe illness and if left untreated, could lead to severe complications. Mostly used drug is Vancomycin because it is very effective in treating enteroccocus, its side effects are not numerous, while chloramphenicol could cause severe problems (depression of bone marrow).
