I tried the water thing and it didn't do any good. The only thing was changing my eating.
My husband has triggers that contributute the throat clearing such as coffee and bacon. He trys to stay away from
them, but it's hard when he loves them so much. He is also very acidic, so the Dr. is going to perscribe some pills
to lower that. I just hope something works.
Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you've been through alll that. My husband has been to 4 specialists, and they couldn't find
anything either. He does have triggers such as coffee and bacon, and he's trying to stay away from them. I'm finding
that there are a lot of people who clear their throats and get nowhere when they go to the Drs. Even when my husband
stays away from certain foods, he still has some pretty bad days. Like you, if we thought surgery was the answer,
we'd go for it!!!!!!!!!!!
no worries debbie, ill have to keep going with the nose spray my consultant gave me, she thinks its my acid reflux that is causing it?
Hi Debbielg! It sounds very optimistic! In place where I live this herb is very common. It grows from March till May and it's everywhere. I didn’t realize that this weed :-D can be a cure. I will try to drink it as tea or syrup. Fingers cross for relief in this disease! :-)
Hi Iwona, thank you for some positive feed back. After all these years of listening to my husband clear his throat and lungs,
I will try just about anything!!!!!!!!!! It would make the world of difference to me if this works. I wish you all the luck as well.
This is great that we can compare notes and keep each other posted!
Good luck mcintyre, it could be acid reflux. They put my husband on acid reflux medicine, but it didn't do any good. I'm sure if that was the problem, he'd be fine by now. Don't give up, and keep researching everything. That's how I get
through my days LOL!!
lol cheers debbie, iv been on lanzoperazole for years for acid reflux but my ent doctor gave me a nasal spray to use everday as she said this will help my throat clearing, you could maybe ask your doctor about that and say that an ent specialist has gave me this to help me cheers
Hey mcintyre! Does the nasal spray really work? Right now I'm ready to try anything short of walking off a cliff LOL!!
My husband goes for his yearly physical in January, so I'll tell him to mention it to him.
Thanks
I understand. Some days were so bad, and nights when I was up clearing my throat to the point where I just wanted to die. Almonds are the very worst, so just stay away. Sometimes i can eat nuts and sometimes i can't. Just depends on how miserable I am willing to be. Sometimes I have no clue. Went and had an omelette at IHOP and felt worse for a couple of days than I had in months. Most of the time I feel great though and just glad the worst is over and I have found the answer for me. I just felt at times I could not imagine living my life that way anymore. 90% of the time no problems. Your husband might be able to drink a different brand of coffee or even bacon. Just have to try different things. Good luck. There are probably more things that he is sensitive to than those two things. Just watch very carefully and keep a list.
hi debbie,
to be honest iv not been taking it as often as i should be, just cause i hate the taste at the back of the throat, but my ent doctor said that the nasal spray should help, tho see if you can buy it over the shops, Iam in the UK the spray I was given is called Nasonex, 50 micrograms nasal spray suspension, used for hay fever, and its a corticosteriod, so see if you can buy it over the counter i will try and remember to keep using it everyday, one spray twice daily thanks debbie
Hi mcintyre, make sure you do!!!!! I have heard the name Nasonex here, so I will call the drug stores and see if they
carry it. If they don't, I'll get my husband to ask his Dr. for it. In my opinion, anything that works, no matter what the taste
is worth taking. I'm a little afraid of this "colt's foot" tasting bad, but HEY!!!!!! he's not the one who has to listen to the
noise. If he were sick, I'd be very understanding, but he seems healthy otherwise. TTL.
Hi Peggy, It's weird but it's me who wants to die sometimes. It's been so many years, and I feel like I'm missing out on
so many things. I used to love going to out to eat, but I can't stand the drive back. Also simple things like watching a
movie together, and taking overnight mini vacations are out, as there's no escaping the noise. I can relate to not wanting
to live your life like that anymore, as I feel the same way. I am trying everything I can to help my husband with this thing
that is causing him to do this. Drs. are no damn good, as he's been to so many. I will take your advice about the bacon
and coffee. The colts foot will be here early next week, and I'll let you know if it helps. I'm so glad you're feeling better!
Debbie
Just have him cut back and eat like the Paleo diet. Only things that the cavemen would have eaten. You can find the diet online. If he starts to feel better you can add one or two things at a time. Keep track of what he eats very carefully and how bad he feels after. It is a process of elimination. I sure hope you can find the answers. My husband is very good about it, but there were times when he would comment that he knew where I was clear across the store and store clerks would say that they hoped I got over my cold soon. I not only clear my throat, but sniff as well. You might try some good earplugs, earphones you can plug into the TV and not listen to other noise around you. My father-in-law does that so that he doesn't wake my mother-in-law. I get similar problems with fabric stores and the detergent aisle. It can be really difficult, but it is worth the try to get over the misery. The only problem I feel like I really have now is that once I eat the wrong thing I am miserable for the rest of the day or even two until it settles down again and because it is not an allergy, but a sensitivity I don't think there is much that can help it. I have tried allergy pills, etc. No good. GOOD LUCK!!!
Thinking about it; This may have started when I started drinking coffee. Early next year I am going to cut out coffee, and then if it doesn't work I will also start the paleo diet! Although diet did not affect me like this when I was young, so? I have started weekly 1to1 councelling sessions with a mental health charity, and since my clearing of throat started soon after a family member began clearing throat who had a mental health break down, we have identified that I seem to suffer from anxiety based on that I relate the clearing of throat to a mental health issue and lack of confidence. I am a confident person so the fact that I relate clearing of throat in this way makes me more worried that others may view me in this way so the habit worsens and stays on my mind constantly which is when it's at it's worse!
*** CAN ANYONE ELSE RELATE THIS?? ***
I confirmed with a family member that I did not used to clear throat regularly as a youngster, and as of recent they have noticed this!
