Thank god I finally got rid of my feeling (I posted here 2 months ago). After doing some research, I think that it was some kind of physical thing from laying in bed with a cold... I got rid of it in two days by working on my posture a lot and leaning my head back every hour.... and keeping my head as straight as possible. It was a nightmare for me at first, this condition.

I had a similar thing - the clicking when i swallowed - really horrible sensation. ended up having some tests done and i had a lump on my right thyroid. It turned out to be nothing but a lump, but i had tests done to make sure. If you have a lump you should get it tested.

I too once shouted so loud for a couple of hours I thought I'd done damage to myself. I also had a sore throat as a kid where It felt like I was swallowing razor blades. I click and clack every day. I was terrified that it was cancer but it doesn't appear to be a symptom from what I have researched. I initially felt like my vocal chords were being cut or something. I use to have a beautiful singing voice but now I can't carry a tune.

Hello fellow Clickers. I have been dealing with this "throat clicking" problem for about 6 or 7 years now and its very stressfull knowing I have this uncontrollable clicking going on in my throat and other people can hear it. Even more annoying when its just me. It started off one night I had a cold and was trying to sleep, involuntarily,  now I can sort of control it. Its wierd, I seem to able to make it click by moving my adams apple, by pinching the area right above my adams apple, and swallowing with no food in my mouth. I can make it click but I cant make it STOP! Ive seen several doctors about this issue but neither of them could diagnose it. One of them said that it could be my bones are rubbing together, that could explain the random pain that come and goes in my neck. Another doctor told me its was gas, that could explain why its happens so much after i eat. Its definitely a bother to sleep but i notice that there is less clicking when my mouth is closed and I am laying on my right side. I also have a frequent occuring of sinusitis which makes me believe its has to do with the mucus in my throat. Recently I have started to click while talking... uh-oh. I just want the clicking to stop forever its so embarrasing.

Im no specialist but because paid professionals could not diagnose this clicking I have come up with my own.

I think it may be a mixture of both mucus in our throats and the gas from our stomach creating theses tiny little mucus gas bubbles in the free air pockets in our throat around the trachial bones. When these bubbles pop we hear a clicking sound. I believe these bubbles are develop at the base of the throat. I believe upward traveling gas mixes with the mucus, creating the bubbles, then the bubbles start to pop as they ride this short wave of gas to top of the throat till they reach the outside air where the remainder of the bubbles will pop. Think of pouring soda into a glass, notice the air bubbles rise to the top then pop.

Here are my personal methods to help reduce the clicking. These methods seem to work, but then clicking comes back. Post your methods to help find a more permanent solution.

eating less gassy foods

not smoking  (anything)

not swallowing with an empty mouth or not swallowing just knots air

not swallowing mucus

not playing with adams apple

not drinking soda

not eating right before bed

NOT THINKING ABOUT IT  (MUST)  Think Baseball

I really hope this posting helps my fellow struggling Clickers out there as previous posts have informed and educated me.

Anyone struggling with this issue I encourage you to post about it and post what helps reduce your clicking. The more information we share the closer get to solving this throat clicking mystery.

Did you ever figure this out? I traveled to Kenya on the 9th, as soon as I got here I had a sore throat (dry, scratchy. Went on for 4-6 days and was feeling better till this morning when I swallowed a bite of breakfast and felt popping on the right hand side of throat. Not the same side really hurts bad and can barley stand to swallow. No more popping just pain.

Try to sleep with your head straight facing up
No PILLOW. ND NOT ON A EMPTY STOMACH. Something light like small bowel of cerial or yogert could be Your Own acids making it swell up. It was for me nd this changed everything 4 me. Good luck best wishes. Brother
