go see your doctor, if they are good docs they will give you a short controlled course of diazepam that reduces over 10 days!!! Yes the withdrawals are aweful. ive done it. i wanted to climb out of my own skin but it DOES get better and the withdrawals wont kill you!! Maybe try a 12 step fellowship to help and support you!! It has worked for me!!! It will get better if you abstain completely !!! all the best!!!
hi claire 1984 i also have a heavy codeine addiction 20 30mg per day and yes the deceit is something we all understand i recently told my gp who put me on anti depressants to get me stable and told me we would tackle the codeine in two months i feel better just for telling her as like you mine was a huge secret dont try to come off it on your own see a doctor but we all know how hard it is personally i think it should only be given as last resort hang in there i shall soon join you
I wonder if anyone still reads this line - I have a lot in common with the earlier posters - 55 and about an 8 year addiction
to prescription codeine - 270mgs a day - supposed to have been broken up into 3 doses, but I took it all at once at bedtime
in order to help me sleep. I was also taking Cymbalta, and I am still taking 1.5mgs of Xanax - I have managed to get off the
Cymbalta, but the codeine is ruling me. I've cut down so far, to 150mgs, but I'm going through the same severe withdrawal
that everyone else describes - I'm going into day 3 - and I'm starting to wonder whether I shouldn't just cold turkey the
entire thing and get it over with instead of trying to wean myself off. God willing, if I can beat the codeine, the Xanax will be
next, and likely just as rough as the codeine - my husband is supportive, but there's no end in sight to the hell I'm in - I have
FM, arthritis and so along with the usual pain of just trying to quit, there's all the FM symptoms rearing up as well. I've
started taking Glucosamine and and Omega-3 to help address that issue, but those won't even begin to have any effect, if
they do at all, for at least 3 months, I'm told - I hope someone is still out there - the nights are the worst, they are so very
long and so very lonely.
