Hey

i have been suffering from swollen lips fro about a year now..

chinese sauces,anything with citrus taste,dust,extreme heat,metal contact...

all of these seem to cause swelling

i went to general physician, skindermatologist, allergy specialist, did blood tests, skin prick tests for allergies, all reports came negative.

dermatologist prescribed me anti alergic medicines with some creme to apply locally..these ointments when i stopped using my swelling re occured...

any suggestions from people from medical science would be helpful...

Hi yes it does. Now in 2017, the swelling improve when I take lexotanil 1.5 MG. My conclusion its caused by stress. I am still suffering from the condition as I am living in a depression since 5 years. I can say in my case it's 99% caused by stress.

We may have a link. I had a bridge and the porcelain broke off and exposed the metal that connects the 3 teeth. It's been broke for years and I don't have the $4,000 to replace it. 3 months ago I woke up with a swollen top lip. I'm a Non-smoker, no allergies, occasional soda. Recently have been promoted to Team Lead. Stress could be my answer but now that you mention dental work, the non precious metals of the bridge may be causing mg problem.

Hi, To the original person who posted on here - I notice it was a year ago - any improvements/ answers?
Your post sounded like my son had written it as he is suffering exactly the same. The only difference is that he doesn’t smoke. It’s so frustrating not getting anywhere with the medical profession.

I’ve had chronic upper lip swelling for 10 years now. I’ve been to countless doctors who all just basically give up. I’ve narrowed it down to when I eat lots of hard to digest foods (wheat products, corn, corn syrup) as well as junk food. I can have any and all in moderation. But if I have, say, pizza, spaghetti, etc for dinner an entire week, my upper lip really swells up. I think it may be a digestive issue. My lip is always slightly swollen but does get much worse when I eat these foods. I’m currently on a 5 year allergy injection program, which has significantly helped my allergies, but hasn’t done a single thing for my upper lip swelling. I’ve read everything from Lupus, to a deep fungal infection. But no doctor ever takes me seriously when I suggest these things. I’ve honestly given up. My upper lip is permanently disfigured from the years of swelling. It’s a huge insecurity which has caused years of mental anguish and depression. I’m 30, and I honestly don’t know how I will live with this for the rest of my life.

I know your pain!! I’ve recebtly been diagnosed with Orofacial Granulamotosis with the 2 biopsy’s I had. I just recently started seeing specialists so I don’t know all the answers but I have pin pointed vinegar, jelly and soda as 3 for sure things that make my lip swell. The entire skin between my nose and top lip swells and while it doesn’t hurt, it’s painfulky embarrassing. My top lip get warm to touch and stretches so it always feels severely chapped. I have an appt with an auto immune doctor, have scheduled allergy patch testing on my back and seeing a dietician soon. I did find out that it’s the actual contact on my lip that causes the swelling so I recently started eating cautiously as to try and not let food touch them. I will update my results when I find any new findings but I do agree that the cinnamon and sodium benzoate free diet is the place to start. I do not have any stomach issues such a Krohns which is often the case with the issue I have.

I had swollen lips due to consuming artificial sweeteners daily.
I usually drank a tall bottle of Coke Zero and many glasses or Crystal Light daily.
My lips were swollen for 2 months. I eliminated milk, eggs, shrimp, nothing helped.
The swelling would go down when I took an antithistimine. I was getting ready to go to an allergist when I read about artificial sweetener allergies. After 2 days of not drinking Coke Zero and Crystal Light, my swelling was gone. It has been over 2 weeks and the swelling has not returned. I now drink unsweetened tea and water with lemon. I have heard that Stevia is a good alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners.
