I was just diagnosed with carotodynia, they said migraine first and now this. I was on aspirin and cipro so far, swollen gland too. As you see those drugs didn’t do anything good. I need to know what carotodynia is and how to treat it. I’ve been to 3 doctors and I’ve got 3 different answers. Now I don't know what to believe. I am currently suffering from extreme pain in my neck near the front, an area that does seem to be on the corotid artery and blurred vision.
I think you have some symptoms of carotodynia, but I am more concerned about your statement regarding blurry vision. This symptom is not seen with carotodynia, but it has been seen in an unrelated disorder called carotid dissection. Is your visual blurriness in one eye only or both? Please, test yourself, you should see a neurologist. To answer about treatment, analgesics are appropriate for the treatment of carotodynia. Other medications that have been used include lithium, ergotamine, and calcium channel blockers.
