My gynecologist was aware of this side effect. But the orthopedic doctors refuse to believe that their is a relationship between the shot and vaginal bleeding. They need to do more studies on this!!
Yes. I work in medical. Had I known i wouldnot had them done. No one is saying how long you bleed.
Thank you for sharing. 8 injections 1 week later started bleeding 55 yrs old postmeno.
Im 65 year old. Not had period since 55 when chemically stopped due to flooding. Had cortosteroid injection in shoulder end of Feb. am now on third bleed.seems to be 14 days between. Not heavy bright red but almost black. Not a flow. Like waste. but the back pain and abdominal pain like a period. hormones shot. After being so settled for ten years taking to this badly. Fear its going on so feel i must seek medical advice. If id known this i would not have had injection.
Yes real person, not had period in ten years. Got injection in shoulder 10 days later spotting . Now on third lot of spotting. 14 days between, not red but brown, cramps and hormone imbalance worse of all. Thinking of seeing Dr, but friend has same thing . She got injection in shoulder also. Im 65 shes 49
Yes... There is a link between these Injections and postmenopausal bleeding.
This is the second time I've had epidural and steroid treatment on my back. First time I ended up having a polyp removed and this time I've also started bleeding vaginally. Problem is I'm 62 years old so it is fairly traumatic to deal with this. The epidural and steroids have really helped my mobility but this bleeding is a worry.
Thank you. I feel so relieved to know it's not just me. I had several cortisone shots done (biweekly) following my car accident and my period came and just wouldn't stop. But I didn't think cortisone since I was juggling a lot of changes and stress in my life.. just moved to another state, family coping with a difficult problem.. my period last 6 weeks. I went to the GYN, there was nothing wrong.. Now it started again last week Wednesday, and im thinking okay.. guess thia is my new cycle.. but today, a week later I'm still bleeding and i thought oh no.. not thia 6 weeks period again!!!! I look at my calendar and I just had a cortisone to knee on the 25th. IT HAS TO BE CORTISONE!!! I'm so relieved I could cry. No wonder I've been so emotional, drained, depress. Thank you ladies for this post. Thank you. Helps to just know i can quit the shots, deal with the pain but at least feel better emotionally and put an end to this never ending period sh*t! Hope you're all feeling better by now. Xozozo
I'm just happy I'm not alone. Got my first shot last week for lateral tears and then ended up with spotting, then full on bleeding. I won't ever get this shot again.. I just hope it doesn't last too long.
So glad to find these answers. At 73 years old it was the last thing I expected. The cortisone shot into my hip was very necessary to ease the pain, but I was not warned of this or any other of the side effects that I experienced.
Me, too... shot in elbow, pds 2 weeks apart now...
Not just post-menopausal. I just turned 39 and had very regular periods before this. I have been wondering what the hell was going on with the constant bleeding and the period that came a week early. Now I know.
Many years ago I had a Kenalog injection & soon began spotting which lasted for a month. Didn't think about there being any connection between the shot & the bleeding until maybe a year or two later the exact same thing happened. I then told my doctor, who said it was unusual but not unheard of. That was at least 30 years ago. When I've mentioned it to other doctors, no one seems to have heard of this.
I got a cortersteroid shot in my butt for Lichen Planapolaris. Exactly a month to the day I got the shot, I started bleeding (been in menopause foe over 15 years). Went to my OBGYN took a look but didn't see a thing obvious and scheduled an ultrasound. Then went on the net and started reading and saw this was a side effect from the shot. Called my dermatologist and she confirmed, that although they don't see it often, it is a known side effect. I bled for 18 days and felt like I was 16 again with the cramps and the moods. My GP still wants me to go for the ultrasound just to make sure it's not something else. Very stressful and needless to say I will never have another steroid shot! Don't know why they don't publish this as a possible side effect???
I'm am 61. I had 2 cortisone shots in a 3 week period in my wrist. I'm bleeding for the first time in 11 years. I'm so scared. Can cortisone do this to a woman ?
