after having an injection in my coccyx I started bleeding which for a 70year old was a terrible shock. I was told by the gynecologist that it was caused by the injetion and had to take drugs to stop the bleeding. I also reacted badly and my face turned scarlet and had to take antihistamine tablets. The injection has not worked and now I am scared of havnig another as I was also told that too many can weaken the bones

Thank you everyone. I have been through my menopause for 20 yrs yes I went through mine early. I had two shots in my back for herniated disks and arthritis and now I am bleeding through the vagina and rectum. I was wondering how long this will last. It makes me feel better knowing so many women are going through the same. Not saying I am glad you are cause I am not but posting what is going on does help others know it is probably a side effect from the shot. I have to go through all the test now too. My dr said yes it was probably the shot but she rather be safe. When I called the dr who did the shots I had 2 at same time they said they never heard of such a thing. HIs sec said I will triple check and call you back but when she did she said I am right it isn't from the shot. The first time I had a shot many yrs ago and yes it was after my menopause I did the same thing but not as long and bad as this time but I never considered it was the shot. I just figured it was just one of those things women went through after their menopause. However, after this I know it wasn't. I too wish the dr who gave me a shot was better informed and warned me. These drs I went through are suppose to be the best but if that is the case they should know that these shots can cause bleeding. Would I of had them yes but at least I would of known not to worry so much when the bleeding started. I do not think I will have another through cause it only lasted 4 days for the disc. It has helped some on arthritis but not enough for me to go through all this bleeding and now all the test dr wants to take. I will just keep taking the pain meds my dr gives me. They at least take the edge off where I can function. So thank you all for posting what you have gone through or going through. It has made me realize that I am right about those shots and they can cause bleeding. Does anyone know how long the bleeding last. I have a double does from both vagina and rectum. My at times like at night will stop and then before I get up it will start again and I know that the shots must of been the cause of both cause they both start and stop the same time. I know it sounds crazy but that is the how it is for me. I do not understand myself why I will start and stop in both the vagina and rectum at same time but that is what is happening.

I got my shot in my knee on a Thursday and that Sunday I was bleeding. I had just had my period 2 weeks before and I have also, been having awful thoughts and crying alot. I called my GYN and she confirmed the shot made me bleed again. I wish the male doctor would've told me this could happen because I would have said no to the shot!

How can I stop the bleeding? My GYN said give it a week and suggested birth control.

Your body should re-adjust naturally; try acupuncture for your knee pain. I am thrilled with the results! Good luck!

Thank you-Someone else recommended that as well. I hope I re-adjust soon

I had a cortisone shot July 25th/2017. On 7-26, much to my surprise, I started spotting and ultimately had a 12 day period!!! I did not make any connection between the two. I'm almost 70 so this was quite a shock. I went to my primary MD, got a GYN referral, had a Endometrial biopsy and a Transvaginal Ultrasound. All came back negative. Recently someone told me that a cortisone shot can mess with hormones, so I began searching. I ultimately found this site. Thanks to all of you for your posts. They've been very valuable to me. The shot has been like a miracle, so I'm willing to have the side-effect knowing that it is nothing more than that. Good luck to anyone reading this.

If it were me, I'd go see my primary physician and take the website address for this blog. I also found a research study
- these were their findings: CONCLUSION: Epidural steroid injections are associated with subsequent abnormal vaginal bleeding for both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. Women undergoing epidural steroid injection should be advised of abnormal bleeding as a potential adverse effect and providers should be aware of this association when evaluating abnormal bleeding. I hope this helps.

Same here. I took the shot in my ankle and I am on HRT Therapy and have been bleeding and staining for almost a month now. Very upset. Calling my GYN every few days.

I had vaginal bleeding for almost a month after an epidural steroid injection. My doctors refuse to believe that was why. It never happened before and hasn't happened since
