Female scheduled for bladder cystoscopy later this month (frequent UTIs and blood). Got the talk from the Dr. assistant as follows: "You can drive yourself to hospital as you will not be getting any medication for the test." I mention I assume he uses a topical gel to numb things. "No the doctor does NOT use any type of numbing gel - it's very quick and he likes to say it's no worse than a pap smear." THEN "Oh except for the men. He uses local anesthetic for the men." Anyone else think this is weird?
It does sound unusual for them not to use any type of numbing before the procedure even considering the female urinary tract is somewhat shorter to the male one, even if you check on the web for that procedure it says when using the flexible one a local numbing procedure is used to minimise any discomfort, if I was you I would question the fact the doctor doesn't use it and say you want it used or you want another doctor to do the procedure that does use it.
