Degenerative Disc Disease and Painful Sex

I was a virgin when I got married and sex was always painful for me. I just thought it would take some time to get used to and just decided to deal with it. I've been married for about 10 years now and it hasn't gotten better. In fact it's gotten worse. I've also always suffered from back pain since childhood and about 4 years ago was diagnosed with Degeneraive Disc Disease. Since then I've herniated the two lower discs so drastically I've had to have emergency surgery. My question is however, could the painful sex be directly related to my DDD? I didn't pay much attention in my anatomy class and am wondering if the nerves are all intermingled together there causing the intese pain. It's a deep pain that I tend to feel in my back and abdomen. I also have intense menstration cycles that have progressively gotten worse over the years. Any information on this would be helpful. I feel useless to my husband in this area, but he is very understanding.
