I have heard that Dilaudid quickly replaced opium as a recreational drug. I know that is a strong narcotic analgesic. I had to learn this, since my brother told me it is commonly prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain. Later I found out that Dilaudid has two to eight times the painkilling effects of morphine. I want to believe my brother he has to use this drug, so I need info about Dilaudid.

Typically, this drug is used for conditions associated with severe pain, as you already know. Such indications when Dilaudid is prescribed include burns, cancer, surgical pain, injury, heart attack, and other conditions. Dilaudid tablets should be swallowed completely and are available in 1 mg, 2 mg, 3 mg, 4 mg, and 8 mg strengths. Info you might be interested is that in the oral liquid formula, each ml contains 1 mg HCl hydromorphone and miscellaneous non-medicinal ingredients. Info you have to know is that when Dilaudid is abused, tablets are taken orally, crushed and then snorted, or dissolved in water and cooked for intravenous injection. That is something you could watch out with your brother using this drug. Beside this, take care that he never increases the amount or frequency without your doctor’s approval. Dilaudid’s effects are markedly similar to morphine, except the euphoria is closer to codeine. Nausea and vomiting is quite rare, and sedation is practically non-existent with Dilaudid. Interesting info is that intravenous rush is very similar to heroin's.

Dilaudid does cause drowsiness in some, Dilaudid will actually stop breathing in some patients, particularly the elderly, and will certainly make you drowsy.

Hydromorphone is available in 0.5 mg, 1, 2, 4, and 8. And, the high does not resemble that of codeine. It is more like that of Morphine.
