Hi,

I had a brain stem stroke three months ago and couldn't stand for three days.  My balance was severely affected as well as my vision (blurry), ringing in the ears, and circulation (tingling in the palms and feet).  I got better as the days went by and am now able to walk and  have normal hikes for an hour each day in the hills.  In fact, I can do anything without a problem.  HOWEVER, I still get mild dizziness and blurry vision (but not so it's disabling). I get these episodes mostly in the mornings when I wake up or midmornings when the sun is bright. The attacks happen almost every day, but mostly disappears in the afternoon and evening.  I notice when I'm busy and doing things I often forget my dizziness and blurred vision.  Sometimes I think it's all in the mind, caused by post stroke anxiety attacks (I'd just began to get), but they seem so real. The blurriness never really goes away, but sometimes, it's just so much worse than other times and I wonder what is causing this.  I went to ER once because I was worried, and they did a CT, compared it with the original one (when I had the stroke) and didn't find anything.  All that radiation for nothing. The dr. said recovery often invloves experiencing these symptoms.  I still take my 325 mg. aspirin and lipitor.  The anti-vert does not work however.  Since I have severe allergies for twenty years now, they prescribed my claritin and fluticasone which I take everyday.  I have learned to accept things and consider myself lucky that I recovered. With this positive thankful attitude, I am more able to handle these bouts of dizziness and control the anxiety attacks.

Recent research (and the lack of good past research) actually suggests statins CAUSE strokes and heart disease. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation recently had a documentary about it

I've had 2 strokes in the last 12 months with the last one being about 2 weeks ago. I find I am most dizzy in the morning and lacking energy. I found that chewing on ginger root gets rid of the dizziness for a few hours. It has something to do with the enzymes in the ginger. Hope this helps. It helped me...again.

Hope your dad is doing better. My dad's stroke affected his eye sight as well. They said the kind of stroke he had was the kind you want if you have one. Has your dad gotten any better since? His stroke was 2 weeks ago. I'm worried to death!!!

I am 36 now, yet when a was 34, I had a stroke weeks following a dental extraction under general and local in an out patient surgery center.
We found out I had an anesthesia overdoes/toxicity and cardiac arrest without oxygen for nearly 8 minutes, (Staff and oral Surgeon were too busy talking about their dinner date plans), which they also are trying to cover up & have lied to my Husband and I.
Began having severe migraines first time ever, with nueropathy and neck/spine nerve damages around my C-5 down to my T-1 in my back.. I have bunch of other injuries,too.. dislocated jaw/TMJ is just a simple, one of many...
I had a stroke just 3 weeks after, which the Hospital, once I worked at in the post/pre-op actually ignorantly misdiagnosed my stroke for a migraine, although I came again to the ER with Stroke like symptoms.. Long story short.. I am walking alright, better yet have cognitive problems, vision worse, hearing too and much more.
My stroke was caused in my left carotid artery squeezing the O2 out, due to inflammation. One problem which many, especially due to my age is normally gone untreated, or unnoticed. Inflammation is horrible and hormonally becoming worse as I become older. i have 4 children and still have issues with my balance , vertigo and had a seizure several days ago that lasted only 5 minutes, but felt much longer.
Please also make sure you haven't bacteria infections, along with most dizzy spells coming from sinus issues, which can throw the balance off. My heart cath I had January 2014, which was 18 months after my stroke was fine. ALL normal, yet I failed miserable the treadmill testing and also heart racing dye injection, which caused much pain, due to the forcefulness of oxygen surging into my brain.
I can happily only walk fast now, which I used to run daily about 3-7 miles. yet inflammation from high sodium , dehydration and poor nutrition can cause breathing/O2 issues and head pains. Def avoid MSG and glutens.. yes.. rough to do for many and limit caffeine and meds.. even simple meds ieTylenol/Advil. Herbal meds are best for daily vitamins, too plus potassium ( banana ect) are great for leg cramps and light exercise, like yoga for that continued O2 circulation, along with anemia.. watch that! Slows down Oxygen, so can cause more inflammation.. weather stinks here in SW Florida, so can feel a storm thinking about brewing before it even becomes ones and can feel stiff.
Please also.. look into a MRI called DTI ( Diffuse Tensor Imaging) which is a more popular newer form of testing and can determine cerebral brain patterns and nerve findings of blood flow with and without to certain areas, which conventional MRI's and CT Scans DO NOT. Nope.. I was sadly told by now 6 separate Nuero's that my Stroke nevr happened.. Finally.. proved it had indeed and more damages that went unnoticed by MANY lazy, ignorant Doctors, including Nueropych evaluations are WRONG.. Most are deemed malingering or have "mood disorders".. Such a crock of BS..truly isn't.. Just makes their jobs easier to assess that.

same with me after my stroke I became dizzy all the time, after a year I stop taking aspirin and my dizziness went away. but 3-months later I had another stroke , maybe that wasn't to smart. each time I experience a stroke my blood pressure drops very low and have no energy to hardly breath.so aspirin is making my pressure drop causing the dizziness lightheadness.

I had a hemorrhage about 3 years ago, I have suffered from dizziness while stand ever since. I don't know if I am right but my own experience is that barometric pressure cause it to change I checked the reading for the barometer on the day of my stroke and I find that the days its about the same the dizziness is the best while anything above or below makes it worse with lower barometer worse than higher

My husband had a major stroke 18months ago. His eye sight was affected. No peripheral and double vision. I took him to vision therapy and they have both cleared up. We just need to find a solution for the dizziness . I'm thinking holistic is the way to go. Beet juice will bring down bp. Try it an deep an eye on his bp.

My boyfriend, age 52 had a stroke in 2012. I'm sorry to say there does not seem to be a cure for this dizziness. We have had every test imaginable with no success. Eye doctors, ear doctors, therapy of all kinds, neurologist, vitamins, different meds, all kinds of testing, I have come to the conclusion it is from damage done to the brain. It can be very depressing. He has it for months at a time. We still look for a solution.

I've had a small hemorrhagic stroke 7 months ago and just a few weeks ago I have been experiencing dizzy spells mainly when laying down flat, rolling over or looking up. When I lay down flat and turn my head to the left, my eyes spaz out like crazy for about 3 seconds. It's driving me nuts!

My mother is having the same issue. We have been to every doctor imaginable and to OT and PT, including the balance and dizziness program at a local rehab center. Nothing has helped. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

I had an Intracranial stroke 4 weeks ago. They can't find the reason why. I am a healthy 59 yes old female who complained of headaches for a month to my doctor's before and they dismissed it as stress, too much traveling, attitude adjustment for better health...Did they find out why your wife had the stroke?
