Does any one know if bactrim interacts with chamomile? I drink sleepytime tea each night and I was just prescribed this antibiotic for a cat scratch. I'm wondering if it is okay to drink the herbal tea with what kinds of medications but can't seem to find much online

So I took bactrim in the past and never had an issue. I had leg surgery and was prescribed bactrim to make sure I didn’t get any skin infections. On my last pill, I drank two glasses of sleepytime tea. I started feeling sunburned like my skin was kinda warm. I didn’t think anything about it but during the night I kept waking up because my neck and head was itching so bad. I finally woke up and had hives all over my entire body. This didn’t happen until I drank the tea... had to go to the ER and get IV Pepcid. They said I had a delayed allergic reaction to bactrim but I don’t think so! I really think it was and interaction with the tea.

Hello to all.

There is limited information available on the potential interaction between Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim) and chamomile.

Chamomile is a natural product that has been used for centuries as a traditional remedy for various conditions, including anxiety, insomnia, and digestive issues. Chamomile tea and supplements are generally considered safe when used in moderation, but they may interact with certain medications.

Bactrim is an antibiotic that contains two active ingredients, sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. It is commonly used to treat bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and skin infections.

There are no known interactions between Bactrim and chamomile, but it is always advisable to consult with your healthcare provider before combining any medication with herbal products, including chamomile. This is because some herbs can interact with prescription medications and cause unwanted side effects or reduce their effectiveness.

In general, it is a good idea to be cautious when combining any medication with herbs, as some herbs can affect the way the liver processes medications, potentially increasing or decreasing their effectiveness.
