Hey girls i was on the depo shot when i was 16yrs old and only took 3 of the shots and havent been on any birth control since then and im now 20 yrs old and have been trying to get pregnant for 3 years now and cant seem to get pregnant did the depo shot mess me up for having kids
I had my last needle June 2008. My boyfriend asked me to stop taking it because of my low sex drive. The next needle i was supposed to get would have been August but never went and got it. It is now January 2009 and I still have not had my period. My sex drive is still very minimal and hurts when trying to do it. My boyfriend and I were talking about having kids soon and now after reading all of this I am very scared that having children may be a problem and worried that I still haven't even had a period yet. If I would have known that Depo could have caused this I would have never went on it. I was on it for a little over a year. I feel that ALL doctors should be educated on this drug before prescribing it to patients...
I had a horrible experience with Depo dealing with my legs. When i got my first shot everything was normal my cycle did not come on for the next 9 months!!!! I gained atleast 30 pounds...and felt like i had osteoporosis....I ached evey night and everyday. I decided to remove myself from taking the depo shot. My next shot was due January 27, 2009. I call my gyn and informed her that i no longer want to go through this experience with depo and asked if i can try orth tri cyclen. On January 18, 2009 I started taking Trinessa(generic brand of OTC) I havent had any problems yet I have already lost 2 pounds and i have noticed that some of the bloating that i gained in my midsection has decreased. I have absoultely no problems with my legs anymore and I am bo-legged so that was putting me through a lot of pain and i never had problems with my legs or bones before. Im just glad its over. And with the bleeding it stopped exactly 1 week after i started my pills. I went through one box of regular tampons and I dont have to wear them until i get my cycle hopefully i am back on track and on my way to losing the weight i gained, cellulite and my puffy face. Oh yea i went from a size 7/8 weighing 135 to a 11 weighing 165....I will lose it!! have faith do what you think is best for your body...Be Happy. Be Healthy. Be Informed

I was on depo when i was 15 took it until i was about 17 the 2 years i was on it i did not have a period except for the 3 months (straight) when i got my first shot. I am now almost 21 and have had a miscarriage, and have been trying now for about 2 years doctors have done tests and said i should have no problems getting pregnant...
One of my friends got on it when she was about 16 got off it by the time she had turnt 17 and is now 22 and has yet been able to get pregnant and also has had no luck other than miscarriages and has been trying for the last 3 years
My best friend who was also on depo from the time she was 15 until she was 16 and is not 21 and had 3+ miscarriages after 4 years of trying her and her fiance was finally able to get pregnant with her first
I say depo has to have something to do with having so much trouble getting pregnant cause everyone i know who has been on it has had trouble conceiving afterwards not to mention all of your stories.

I am %100 sure that depo causes infertility! I had not trouble conceiving, after my first pregnancy, I took depo. when I went off, it took me YEARS to conceive, then I miscarried. My Doctor said that depo is awful, and he has seen so many side effects, he told me about 10 percent of women never conceive after taking it.
I haven't been able to conceive, thank goodness for adoption!!

My husband and i have been married for 4 1/2 years now. We were married Aug. 14,2004. I was pregnant by September but had a miscarriage about 6 or 7 weeks into my pregnancy. It was sort of depressing for me so I decided i didn't want to get pg right away. I went on the depo shot for one year. Now here we are 3 1/2 years later i still don't have a normal period. I may go for 6 or 7 months without one. I am 29 years old. I also am an RN and have researched publications related to depo but the manufacturers as well as my OB Dr. are adamant it isn't this shot that has caused my problems. I am convinced otherwise. I tell everyone that thinks about going on the depo shot if they are not finished having children they should stay away from it.
I was on Depo for 5 years! From the time I was 16 untill I was 21,I'm 32 now. No pregnancies, misscarriages, and my 1st husbend left me due to me not bearing any kids after 8 years of marriage. My last shot was in Dec. 1997. When I first got the shot, it was brand new, (well at least to mr Dr's office) and was a good alternitive to the pill, being only 16 I would never remeber to take it. I bleed for 33 days straight, then nothing untill Sept. of 98. When my period did come back it was very different. I was a heavy bleeder for most of puberty ( I started when I was 8) so when my period cam back and was lighter, I was feeling blessed. However I did not expect the irregularity and clotting that I have indured for many, many, many years now. One Dr told me the clotting and irregularity was caused by PCOS and because I'm over weight. The over weight part I truly feel is BS, I come from a long line of bigger ladies and infertillity is not something anyone on my family has ever ad an issue with ( I come from a large family). To this day I still have many issues, phibroids on my utirus, more and more clotting, cycsts, pain all the time, nausea and I could list things for days. All I know is, in my honest opinion that shot has changed and/or damaged something inside and no one can give me an answer as to why. I just had my yearly and I asked my Dr what she thought and her answer was she belives the shot definatly has a factor in my infertility. Something needs to be done...I read about the class action suite in Canada about the bone loss, but I have yet to find anyhitng here in the US and about infertility. It saddends my heart knowing that there is a possibity that I will never have a child due to a drug company wanting to make a buck. Can you even put a price on that? I know that I am not the only one going thew this. I'm not a real educated person, I don't know about law, however I truly think that something needs to ne done. I have been gathering as much information as possiable and before I contact a lawyer I wanted to see if, and how many this shot has effected. I want to get as much information as possiable and as many opinions form everyone.
I started the depo provera shot when I was 15 almost 16 and was on it only untill I was almost 18 and now I am 25 and I havent used any other contraception since that and I ended up with precancerous cyes on my cervix at the age 17 i had surgery for that and i have had 2 forced periods since then and no pregnancy and I have been with my guy since I was 16yrs old. I have had so many test done I really believe too that it caused me indefinite infertility!!! They never told me that there were risks like ths so please if you know someone younger taking this or anybody for that matter please talk to them about this>>> thanks!! good luck! :-S :-S :-S
i took the depo shot from 16-18 then quit taking it. I TTC for 4 years before i conceived my little girl in january 06. In october i gave birth no problems. Before i left the hospital i took a depo shot(10-20-06) I NEVER TOOK IT AGAIN....ONLY ONE and have been trying for #2 for over 2 years now and nothing. My cycles are not regular and it's very depressing to go thru this. Especially being as how that people going thru 1st time infertility think i just should be happy with the one i got and i am but i want at least 2 more. Me and my husband are devastated. DEPO STINKS >;)
Depo Provera has been a nightmare!!! I was on depo provera from age 18-28. ten years!!! Then I got married and stopped using it. It has been almost three years and I am yet to concieve and still have no regular cycle. After ultrasound,My OBGyn says that my ovaries are still suppressed.

I was on Depo from the age of 13 to 18. I am now 23 years old. And like so many of the women on this forum I have been trying to conceive for 2 years without any luck. The first 6 months into it I began to consider the effect of the 5 years of Depo had done to me. It is a relatively new form of birth control compared to the pill. And I had exreme trouble with the depo. Bleeding for 4 months when I was originally placed on it. The insane rage episodes that I would get every month. It was a rage that I have not felt prior to or after being on Depo Provera. The acne that I have now as an adult is almost unbearable! The cramping and heavy periods are beyond what I consider tolerable pain. And it took a total of 5 years, 5 to get a somewhat stable period. ie. less than twice a month! I truely believe that the medical industry is hiding the long term INFERTILITY affects caused by this DRUG! Every doctor I have asked whether or not this could be a reason tells me NO! The helpful link a fellow female posted was removed....hmmm censorship by wealty drug companies at the risk of what...population control? Everyday I question whether or not I will have a child. And why had I been so stupid to take something that would harm me-ruin me as a woman? Something I took to delay an unwanted pregnancy for not only myself but society as a whole. Today a close friend said she was going on Depo.My reaction to her is what drove me to write to you... Next week.... im going to a doctor, once again to ask her these questions....and she will say the same things the last ones did. We need to come together and do something, protect all of the young women who are being subjected to Depo as corporate guinea pigs. Because tell me how is it possible for so many people to experience the same things, and it not be considered or labled as a side effect by the FDA?

If it can change your hormones to prevent pregnancy, is it a possibility that this drug can switch off certain chemical reactions in your body forever?

I was on depo for three years and I have been off for 5 years I have tried and tried to get pregnant NOTHING.My periods are irregular it comes on when it wants to and go off when it wants to it staus on sometimes for 17 days :-(
I was on Depo for 5 years. I was off for 3 and then started ttc. 3 years no + result. IVFs treatments with very bad ovarian response. If this is a side effect of Depo, something should be done!! I also read that women that want to be egg donors, should not have taken Depo. This means Drs know it has a negative effect on fertility! Any information on lawsuits???
