I have chronic constipation for a long time. Beside that I have hard stools, that led to emerging of hemorrhoids and anal fissures. This was all a big problem for me (constantly visiting a doctor, skipping work etc). I have started taking Metamucil, I drink it for a long period now and it does help. Does taking Metamucil for a long time causes body addiction?
Metamucil is a laxative that posses plant fibers that come from Psylium. Even though it is a laxative, it can be used for a long time and there is no possibility of getting addicted. If there is fear of addiction, I would advise you to add to your meals fibers from fruit, vegetables, and in this way slowly start eliminating Metamucil from your organism.

You body will adjust to psyllium, which acts mechanically in the digestive tract. Mechanical addiction, if there is such a thing, could be possible. Not chemical addiction to the substance, that's not possible.
