Same here. I had my spleen removed back in 2000. My platelets used to be about 40,000 and I was on prednisone and had monthly gamma globulin infusion. All of a sudden my platelets became normal and now it's 2016 and still about 140,000-180,000. Drinking is an issue with me... I feel like alcohol doesn't suit me now. I don't know what my limit is. That last drink trigger is no longer there and I feel like everything hits me all at once. I used to drink like a fish and now I can't without blacking out or passing out.

I have the same problem. I lost my spleen in a stabbing and I used to be able to drink a lot but now if I drink I pass out all of a sudden which happened while I was driving resulting in a bad accident and more trama to my body and a DUI so I stopped drinking. So be careful.

Hey buddy I had plateletes as low as not noticeable on my every blood test, I was about to bleed to death, that's how bad it was, everyone is different but my problem was my spleen, it was removed and the next very morning I had my plateletes up to 393,000, again I went from 0 to 393, this was a month ago a honestly I am still recovering but I feel better than I did for so many years, as long as you're bowmarow creates plates you should be fine unless it's some cancer that will ask for a bowmarrow tfansplant which I pray that's not you're case, well hope the best for you and that you're surgery does the job, god bless and hope you let me know how it goes

If you're a heavy drinker and you're. Leading due to that well I'd say slow down so you don't need to go thru this life without a spleen, you probably have a chance of getting better if you stop drinking but it depends on you, if I was you I'd stop 100% but we are all wired different, only you can make the change, try seeking Christ and you will for sure see a better way

Same here Guero, If you look at anatomy posters the spleen almost sits on the liver so it would seem logical if the Liver takes all the filration that may have been aided by spleen prior to removal. the body cannot process/ break down the alcohol as efficiently.

I've been drinking quite heavily and have started to feel ill after a binge . Why is having your blood thinned by alcohol bad for you without a spleen ? What are the effects ?

I had my spleen removed in 1977. I stopped taking penicillin when I was in my late teens/early 20s. I am 52 now. I only take antibiotics when I start getting a respiratory cold that doesn't get better. I do drink beer, maybe 3-5 cans a week. As far as I know I am fine. I think I have a pretty strong immune system though, as I rarely get sick. I wouldn't recommend stopping antibiotics without your doctor's advice but for me it didn't seem to impact me at all. As for not having a spleen, I don't even notice it.
