I am addicted to this HORRIBLE drug, never told that it was addictive, just pushed to me by docs. Fifteen years later I can't get off no matter how I try. Horrible brain zaps and psychosis. If anybody is pursuing a class action lawsuit I want in!

What is the situation with the case prospects? I notice the original post was one year ago and wondered what has been happening re. legal position on this case...is there a case?? I am considering legal action in the UK against Wyeth and be good to know things from your side :) also will join your suit...been on it 10 years, 9th attempt at withdrawal and get the Electric shock brain zaps every few seconds. It is awful and frightening. I also have an allergic reaction to the drug but i am stuck in a vicious cycle. Doctors at a loss, life decimated. Pls get in touch. Mary,
Don't know if you got my other email or not. Let me know. I was able to get off of Effexor by weaning off very slowly...1 bead at a time...I can explain it all if you did not get my other email a few minutes ago.

Oh I can so sympathize with the original poster and everyone else who has struggled to come off Effexor.  I too took Effexor for 8-9 years.  I took between 75-150MG during the time I took it.  When I finally tried coming off of it, it was like pure hell.  I remember telling my doctor that I now know what a real junky coming off street drugs must feel like.  It was complete hell.  It didn't matter if I tried tapering down to a lower dose, I still felt the side effects.  I tried many times to get off, only to go back a few days later because I could not deal with the side effects.  I was a flipping mess to say the least.  I was never so sick and feeling out of sorts in my life.  I did finally just pull the plug and do it cold turkey and it was hell, pure hell.  I had the brain/head zaps, nausea all the time, panic and anxiety attacks, felt jittery, anxious and felt like I wanted to sleep constantly.  It's a very terrible feeling and like the original poster mentioned, my doctor never mentioned to me that there were any discontinuation side effects if I decided I wanted to stop taking the drug.

I too think that the MFG of the drug should state that there are discontinuation side effects with the drug and that they can be intense and severe.

Hi Linda,

I was able to get off of it after being on it for 12 years. I removed 1 bead a day...next day one more...in other words...I started with taking 240 beads, then next day 239, then next 238 till I went down to nothing. A natural dr. helped me with St. John's wort and natural things for anxiety/depression which I got at the end.....It's been 3 months and I no longer have to take them either. It really did work....nothing else worked for me. If you want to know more, let me know.

If you want to join the class action suit, let us know...we need your full name and city and state or province., etc.

Hi,

I am in Canada and I have lost my job and my family because of the anger caused by Effexor...my wife told my mother (we still don't talk) that she didn't know me the past year and that I was never like that before...I never made the connection with Effexor until a family friend mentioned that her father went through the same anger.

Hi,

I am so sorry for all your grief. It makes me so angry what this drug does to people. I am still having a problem with anger too. Are you still on the Effexor? I was able to successully wean myself off. If you are interested in hearing about that, look at my letter to Linda above yours. Michael Fearon is organizing a Class Action suit. We will need your full name and province in Canada. He is giving that information to a lawyer. Let me know if I can help in any way. We are hoping to get this drug off the market.

I completely agree with you! I've been fighting to get off this drug for so long! I started taking it about 14 years ago and found it impossible to quit do to the horrific withdrawals no matter what method you try. (I've tried everyone I've ever heard about). This drug needs to be taken off the market now!

Hi Molly,

Did you try to remove 1 bead a day and then another one the next day...I started with 240 beads, next day 239, next day 238 and so on. Then my natural dr. gave me some homeopathic things for depression/anxiety as I got to the end. I had no side effects and I only have to use the homeopathic things once in a while.

Are you interested in being included in the class action suit. We need the city and state or province (if another country) to give to the lawyer.

I had a horrible experience and withdrawal with this drug. If you need my input, I would be glad to participate in this law suit. I still have severe GI issues, I believe due to this drug.
Thank you,
Lesa

Hi Lesa,

Thanks for your input. Yes, we would like you to join our class action suit. We also need city and state or province where you live to give to the lawyer. Have you been able to get off of the drug. I did it by taking out 1 more bead each day and was able to get off of it....also a natural dr. gave me things for anxiety/depression that I don't even have to use anymore...if you would like to know more, I would be glad to share that with you. Terry I'm going to forward your email to Michael Fearon, who is handling the C.A.S.

Yes, I finally got off the drug after months of crushing tablets and putting the powder on my tongue when the withdrawal symptoms would start. As stated before, my current GI symptoms I believe are a result of the horrible GI side effects and withdrawal symptoms from this drug. I will be happy to speak with the lawyer. Lesa
