I had an ablation done almost 2 years ago. I am 32 years old with 5 children and had periods that were very heavy for 8 days+. The ablation recovery was nothing like I expected. It was very painful and took forever to abate. My dr. was "shocked" that I was in such discomfort and told me that I was the first patient to complain of pain and ask for pain medication. Now, I gave birth to 5 kids, I have a tolerance for pain, and this was painful! That said, my periods seemed to shorten a bit, now they are about 5 days, but heaviness and discomfort during them continues. Also, after the 5 days of menstruations, I am flow-free for a few days, and then it seems as if my body has held onto some blood and maybe 5 more days later I start to discharge old blood. Needless to say, I am not happy.

I had the novasure ablation 5mth ago and wish i hadnt bothered.
My periods are now more painfull and the procedure left me in alot of pain for 6 wks. My sister suffered less with her hysterectomy.
Im now going back to the hospital to hopefully follow suit.
Many ppl are coming across the the ablation will stop periods all together, i was informed bu the hospital that this is a small percentage and that it usually only stops them all together when the patient is over 40.
My suggestion is to do ur own research on the procedure, if i had done so i would not have had it done.

You may have upto 6weeks of clear to slightly coloured discharge following.
I would try other route first, i regret mine. I would have it reveresed if it was possible.

I had a Nova Sure ablation three years ago. I would have said it was very successful before last month. Both last month and today, at the time I would normally have my period, I am having horrific menstrual cramps without bleeding. Today the cramps are so excruciating that I had to come home from work. If I move around at all, I double over from the pain. Ibuprofen and naproxen don't touch the pain, and I don't want to go back on the prescription pain meds I had to take for my cramps before the ablation. All I can do is roll up in a ball with a heating pad on my belly. I had severe cramps that lasted for several days (along with heavy bleeding) before the ablation, but the pain I am experiencing today is even worse. Any ideas? Could I have grown back uterine lining or scar tissue that is causing me to cramp so badly?

I had it done in the doctors office. I didn't feel much pain with the medication they gave me. It was more pressure and somewhat uncomfortable. The valium they gave me made me feel like I had a couple of cocktails. So, along with my doctors and nurses (2) we all pretended like I was on the beach. They went along with it great. If you trust your doctor and share your concerns I think you will be fine. I had my done The first week of January. The first day was hard with pain. But my PMS pain was just as bad. I got my first period now since I had the procedure. I have no pain just a tiny bit of cramping and some greyish pink discharge. I am very grateful I did it. I was suffering two days of pain that were debilitating every month. I feel like I got some control back. GOOD LUCK! :D

Hi, I had the Nova Sure ablation done in dec 09 and although the horrendous bleeding i was having has stopped i continue to have severe pain. The past 3 months have been the worst with pain that is causing me to take time off work - I am off again right now! The worst of the pain is on my right side pelvic area - I have had general ultrasounds and cystoscopy done to check my kidneys and bladder with no problems detected there. Having another transvaginal ultrasound tomorrow. I know it sounds cray but i'm hoping they find something as at least then it might be treatable and the pain could end :-(

After my 2nd child, I bled for 2 years!
Finally 10 months of bleeding EXTREMELY heavy (i was having to go to the bathroom every 15-30 mins; wearing tampons and pads) i found a different doct. that CARED, i was immediatly admitted into the hospital because my redblood count was 4. She said if i would have waited any longer, i could have died.
They tried a D&C and gave me 2 pints of blood. 2 months later, i started bleeding again.
I was given the option of Nova Sure or hysterectomy @ the age of 25.
She said Nova Sure would be the better choice because i was so young..
After the surgery, which I opted to be put out for, it felt like someone had punched me in the gut for about a week. Had some clearish discharge which was normal and expected.
Now, I have a normal life again! I only bleed every once in a blue moon, but not even enough to wear a tampon and after sex I will spot a little, but that is all.
Nova Sure definatly saved my life!

I am  36 years old and in per menopause, my periods went from 3 days long ever 26-28 days to being 7-9 days long with about 9 days in between and I was using a tampon and a pad for the flow.

My GYN did the ablation in November  and told me that there would be mild discomfort, that night I was I was curled up in the fetal position I was in so much pain.  With the pain killers and 800 mg of  motrin my fever was at 102 for over 2 weeks. I did 2 antibiotics and finally feel somewhat human.

Now for the fun part…lol after all that I started a full blown period on Saturday and I am still going. L what makes me so mad is that I have Factor 5 Lieden ( blood clotting disorder) and a latex allergy so I cant do BC or condoms. So we have to be super careful not to get pregnant after the ablation.  Why is the world did my GYN not try and a Hysterectomy approved????

Hi ladies! I have been reading all these threads since having the endo..ablation.it was a wk yesterday and I wish I remained as I was. I now look at least 4month pregnant. I got bad pain on lower ab and around my tummy. I didn't bleed after the day of the opp.i can't even sit as I hav pain shooting down from my belly button to my anal. Really depressing and can't even walk properly.i have four kids and am 35.its like having contraction cramps every day since. I quit drinking fizzy stuff as this might cause more bloating. I don't wanna eat pulses bake beans cabbage ect.. That's gonna cause further bloating.now I am scared the procedure hasn't worked hence no bleeding after a day of the opp just exstreem pain. I now feel like a guine pig at this new procedure.

I used to be a med assistant in a gyn office and we did them there. I would not recommend. I am having one next week and i chose to have it i the hospital. The women were in a lot of pain during the procedure regardless of the "cocktail" they give you.

I can not tell you the relief I have after reading the posts on this site as well as others.  I had my ablation in July 2008.  After years of suffering through hemmorhagic periods, I had to do something.  I would bleed through a combination of LARGE tampons and LARGE pads - even out in public.  Had I not known better, I would swear that I was having a miscarriage each month - sorry to be so graphic.

2 weeks ago I had my first Pap in over 4 years.  I received a call earlier this week that my results were abnormal.  My GYN scheduled a colposcopy and endometrial biopsy for 2/20/13.  Since then I have ravenously been researching signs and symptoms of cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancer - which include abdominal cramps, bloating, and back pain.  I too have been suffering, albeit silently, from excruciating cramps, bloating, and back pain that would radiate to my posterior and down my legs - my bloating began in 2009.  The one sign I was missing was abnormal bleeding and/or vaginal discharge.

I came upon a website last night with a woman who had also had an EA, and because of this, her diagnosis of uterine cancer was delayed since her EA prohibited any sort of abnormal heavy vaginal bleeding or any other vaginal discharge.  When she was finally diagnosed, her cancer was Stage III.

Well, after reading that, I was certain that I was in the same situation, as was my husband.  He immediately called my GYN's office and left a message insisting that my procedure be moved up.  They returned his call this morning and my testing has  been rescheduled for Monday and he was told further that atypical grandular cells were found during my Pap - which were benign compared to other cells that could have been found - and are not that uncommon.

I then did a search on causes of menstrual cramps and discovered post endometrial ablation syndrome.

Due to my high pain tolerance and pride, I never shared my concerns with my husband until now.  This discovery has been an absolute GODsend.

Just last night I was convinced that I would be given a terminal diagnosis.  When I go to my appointment on Monday, I will definitely be bringing this condition to her attention.

I had this procedure done on the 19th of Sept 2016. Now in Nov. 4 I'm bleeding and cramping again. And it's getting heavier every day that passes what's up? I called my doctors office when it started cause I was told I wouldn't have a period any longer. The nurse says it s normal to bleed some lightly but it's not light anymore... Did it not work?
