Yeah, if it's caught early on and treated the way it's supposed to, then you have a good chance of overcoming it. Most guys do... and a very unfortunate few do not.
It seems as though I may not have the most extreme pain or the longest lasting, but I probably have the most strange combination of symptoms:
- low hanging left testicle, which feels as if it's gonna fall off if I don't wear a jock strap/"scrotal support."
- high-riding right testicle, which retracts with any kind of pelvic and abdominal movement. If it rides all the way up to the pelvis, I get intense cramping pain that reaches my lower back.
- dull ache below, behind, and above the testes, but not the testes themselves.
- decreased ejaculate (which may or may not be due to stress and nervousness or something more serious).
- painful erections since my right testicle rides way up whenever I am aroused. I've also been unable to achieve hard erections since the pain and discomfort freak me out (or it could be something else...).
- since I am less active sexually or even with masturbation, my prostate sometimes twitches and throbs... which freaks me out thinking this may be prostatitis.
- due to the discomfort and pain, I can only sleep on my back. I can't sleep on my side or on my stomach because my balls will hurt.
All tests, so far, come out "normal" - blood panel, 4 testicular ultrasounds, 1 abdominal ultrasound, 1 CT scan, 1 MRI, and countless urinalyses. The doctors are baffled and just go with the initial "epididymitis" diagnosis. When I ask them for the physiological reasons as to why my testicles look the way they do, they have no answer - but they've already offered to do surgery!
This is what gets me. They can't explain things to me, but they have no qualms about chopping me up with no guarantees the surgery will solve my problems. Hell, I'd go for the surgery and I may end up doing it anyway, but I'd still like to know, if at least for peace of mind, what the f**k is going on down there.
As I've said before, I really hope all of you have a strong support from family and friends. If it wasn't for them, I'd have shot myself by now just to alleviate the pain.
I had the left side completely removed and thought that was the cure and then it came back in the right side so there is no real cure.
Obviously have little pain in the left side since it has all bee removed. Good luck to all of us!!
I am having the nerve block shot done on Tuesday and if you are interested I will let you know how effective it is or is not
Good luck mate. Please let us know how you get on with the nerve block as it's something I've been thinking of getting I will try ANYTHING 2 years of my life with this nasty thing.
Cheers Welshguy.
Epididymitis is inflammation of the epididymis, which is a tube located at the back of the testicles. The tube stores and carries sperm.
Keep on to your Doctor mate tell him how bad it's affecting you .
Are you still on the antibiotics? Antibiotics which I took for months at a time did not work for me I wish I had the answer for you.
This has ruined my life for the last 2 years I'm HOPING it eases of so I can go on holiday this year.
I have pain most days some worse than others .
Keep in touch mate. WelshGuy
It is discouraged to have sex if this is a bacterial inflammation because it means you may have chlamydia or gonorrhea (i.e., the acute infection), which you may pass to your sex partner. If you do not have a STD/STI, then it's either E. coli or some other type of non-contagious infection. If there is no known causative agent, then you can masturbate and have sex. It may hurt, but it's not gonna kill ya.
I avoided all masturbation and sex contact for almost two months with this f***ing thing only to come to find that I may have some kind of problem going on that has also affected my ability to have sex.
The poster above had his epididmys removed and he's still experiencing pain(s). THIS is what I'm afraid of.
I took antibiotics for about 5 weeks and I felt no change, which is what made things exasperating for me. However, over time the pain went from a deep, dull pain and spasms to a faint dull ache and slight soreness. Honestly, I'd say the pain level I am experiencing would be between 1 and 4. Sometimes, it could be a 5, if I actually start feeling around too much or if I overexert myself.
The one thing, which has not changed has been the positioning of my balls within the scrotum. Honestly, it looks as if I have damage to both spermatic cords - the left one may have been pulled down and the right one was pulled up. While the pain started on my left testicle region, most of the pain I am experiencing now is on the right testicle, which retracts whenever I move. As the right testicle retracts, I get those spasm pains that travel to my pelvic and lower abdomen areas.
Normally, if you take antibiotics, you should start feeling better after 3 days. If you are not, then it could get trickier from there. Of course, it's recommended to finish your whole regiment even when you feel better. I didn't feel any change after 5 weeks on different antibiotics.
Honestly, the pain I am currently experiencing could be described more as discomfort. So, on that same 1-10 scale, I'd say it ranges from 1-4. It used to go up to 8 or 9. I haven't felt any intense pain for a few weeks. It's just a slight, nagging discomfort.
The thing that gets me is the positioning of my testicles within the scrotum. It looks as if I have damaged spermatic cords, which make the left testicle hang so low and loose and the right one hang so high and tight. The right one causes the most pain and discomfort since it retracts by any kind of movement, including sitting and walking. It's as if I have an overactive cremaster muscle. The specialists and doctors I've seen have not been able to explain any of these symptoms to me and this is why I cannot take them at their word for an operation.
