Hey everyone...so I am not alone apparently. This article is very interesting. For me... I think it's stress.
Hope this helps.

I discovered my dry retching and bring up of froth was caused by a severe narrowing of my airway permanently after having whooping cough a year ago. Now I get these scary choking fits and dry retching at any time. I am on a steroid inhaler daily and antihistamines in case of any allergies arising to give me the best chance of staying alive!!

I'm amazed to read you and I have the same thing. I've had it for years at least 20 yr that I can remember ( grade school ) it would happen at the bus stop and on the bus. Still to this day everyday before work I dry heave. Dr put me on Zantac at night since I'm already taking prilosec in the a.m. People has said try eating and I have it doesn't make a difference. I get up at 430 and leave home at 545 I'm usually still gagging on my way to work. It hurts my stomach daily, but same as you on the wkends it doesn't happen. It's strange and I can't find an answer or an explanation and it's frustrating to say the least. I hadn't ever thought of it being anxiety, but yes it may very well be for myself I dk though.

This absolutely sounds like it is caused by stress and anxiety. I dealt with the exact same thing for about a year as I was going through a divorce & a work related legal matter. Every morning before showering I was on my knees at the toilet gagging & dry heaving. The supplement L-Theanine helped a LOT to relax me and reduce anxiousness but getting through my issues successfully and putting them behind me was the real cure. Haven't had any issues for a couple years now. Good luck to everyone dealing with this - it is awful!

I had the exact same symptoms for the past 6 months. I had blood work, a lumbar puncture, an endoscopy, you name it, I had it. Protonix helped a little, but not much. I went to a specialist who did a gastric emptying exam and though I might have gastroparesis, who then referred me to a dietician. By the grace of God the dietician said I didn't have gastrparesis because I wasn't vomiting food and then strangely asked me if I get leg cramps as an athlete. I said I frequently do and she mentioned a client she had who had a version of cyclic vomiting syndrome. She had take 400mg of magnesium oxide so I started doing the same. After about a week my dry heaving is gone and am now slowing getting off the protonix, down to 20mg a day, So try 400mg of magnesium oxide, that worked for me.

Thanks for the info. I will try this. Did you stop taking it when the dry heaving stopped or do you still continue to take it?

I might consider lowering the dose in the future, but right now I continue to take it

I relate so much to your post....I'm a 39yr old female with multiple health issues stemming from chronic body pain to interstitial cystitis to Gerd to migraines to ptsd and the list goes on. Approx 1.5 months ago I started gagging and dry heaving at the oddest time....there was absolutely no reason for this to happen, I wasn't eating, brushing my teeth not did I see it smell anything nauseating. It happens about 10-15x a day EVERYDAY. The joke in my home (with fiancee and kids) is that I'm pregnant...well seeing as though me and my fiancee have chosen to wait to have sex till we are married...(it's been over 8 months since we've had sex). So that's not a possibility. It happens at the most embarrassing moments....walking through the grocery store, driving, watching a movie, talking on the phone, kissing my fiancee, laying down, sitting up, doing dishes, standing with my daughter at the bus stop....I even urinated on myself from dry heaving so bad in the store 5 below 2 days ago while Xmas shopping. I'm so confused and just don't understand the randomness of this. I wish there was someone who could help shed some light on this.....unless I was probed in my sleep by aliens and might pop out a baby alien in the next 7 months....LOL #NERVOUS #CONFUSED #FEDUP #FRUSTRATED

I CAN'T even begin to figure this out...unless I was probed in my sleep by aliens and might pop out a baby alien in the next 7 months....LOL #NERVOUS #CONFUSED #FEDUP #FRUSTRATED
