I also have the same problem. I found that mine is triggered during the winters. So i went to my doctor and he said that it all could root from my snoring. The heavy snoring causes the throat to be very red and tender, and when the cold air is breathed in, this causes me to dry heave. He told me to gargle aspirin, but it hasnt helped at all. It also happens when i am nervous. I dont know what to do!

I have been experiencing this too. I'm a store manager at a vitamin store and I have been coming up with ways to counter act this. First, try a whole body cleanse. You're getting your body rid of harmful toxins that could be possibly causing these symptoms. A lot of you say the blood work says it has to do with the kidneys or liver. A WHOLE body cleanse will address this issue. I know that MILK THISTLE is an excellant liver detoxifyer. You could also try using a strong dose of COLLODIAL SILVER. when taking internally, it can help kill off bacteria. ALSO try using huge amounts of VITAMIN C as it bolters your immune function. I would suggest trying 5-10,000mg of C. yes you can take that much unless you have a weak stomach then try using Ester C because it is non acidic. Let me know if this might help

My husband dry heaves almost every morning, no nausea but he does have high stress. He's had blood work, endoscopy, and a colonoscopy to try to figure out what's wrong, but everything comes back normal. Acupuncture helps, but only for a short period. Is it mental or physical, or both? Doctors always want to push anxiety meds on him, but I think that should be a last resort. If anyone has any luck with their condition please post.

Mine Came in the mornings about ten years ago due to a stressful time for about a year and went away for about four years, then after a bad divorce it came back in the mornings and seems after every time I ate..Have found no solution other that alcohol but I don't recommend that. Its definitely a stress "mind" issue. Try and keep your mind busy and maybe change your environment..Its helped me..Good luck everyone I know how annoying it can be..

hi, i think the dry heaves are related to angina or heart problems. when i get them i take a nitroquick prescribed by a doctor and they stop instantly. my advice is have your heart checked.

I used to dry heave every morning. I went to the doctor, had some tests done, and nothing was wrong. He then took a urine sample, but they lost it and by then the dry heaving in the morning had stopped, so I didn't give him another sample.

It didn't bother me until I started playing football again. Whenever I play sport I seem to dry heave. It always happens after a quick burst of activity, yet today it happened after I barely did anything.

It happens really quickly and randomly when I play a football match on a Sunday, yet when I go to training on a Wednesday I can run for ages and it only happens when I get really tired. I'm thinking the fact that I'm playing in the morning on a Sunday, and in the evening on a Wednesday may be a factor, as my stomach seems to be less settled in the morning. I vomited a little today, and that's happened a couple of times before as well.

Has anyone ever found out a solution to this? It seems like very little is known about it.

I would like to know where these people with dry heaves are located? Could it be your are all in a new environment that is contaminated with
something? Is it possible something has been introduced in the environment in which you all reside? I would think it would be helpful to
post the state where you are all located in these forums. I have shooting pains or shocks throughout my body lately and also itching skin and pain
in eye teeth and heartburn since coming back from a two month vacation. I live in east TN. I am going into the shooting pain and itching part of these forums to
see if people in this area are doing the same.

In my case dry heaves are completely due to stress. Stress if I have to interact with my ex-wife or deal with the financial mess she left me with. Regular as clockwork, I get them if I have to call her for something about our grown kids, get an unexpected call from her, or sit down to pay bills she left me with. And one or the other or the other comes up every week or so.

I am 42 years of age, I am British, I now live in the United States where I have lived for 10 years. I have been heaving like everyone suggests on this thread probably since I was 16 years of age.
I have undergone all the tests such us Upper GI colonoscopy ets, evaluation for Throat cancer Osopgeal tract tears, etc etc, of course having a jab at my American bretheren, all this expensive stuff was done on Social medicine, and quite comprehensively.

I find that I gag, usually in the morning, however, I usually gag, when I am hungry and I must admit that I have learned the symptoms very well over 20 plus years.
There is a commonality to many of our stories, I was a very big Sports athlete throughout my youth having played Professional Rugby in the UK. Almost before every game, I would find myself gagging, and having an upset stomach, I literally put it down to nerves, however, even without playing a game, I could be jogging in a park and would randoly start puking. I noticed that when it was cold, or when It was windy my throat would tense up, and I knew I was about to start to gag.

What makes it worse for me, is that I can have things in my stomach and god forbid I have a lot of liquid like a morning cup of tea of coffee, that will be puked right up.
My stomach often feels tender and unsettled first thing in the morning. Forget going to a dentists and keeping my mouth open, last month mid treatment, I had to leave, go to the bathroom and spend 10 minutes puking everything up, so as to continue treatment.

But this is the thing, once I have actually puked my contents up, and literally had a good wretch, the gagging stops.
I would find myself deliberatly inducing gagging literally to stop the random outbursts that would happen during a day.

I would often gag if I was in a business meeting, I could also put this down to stress, and found the only way to stop myslf gagging was literally to eat little morsels here and there, literally my wife complains that in my pockets are peanuts, cherio's or mini pieces of crackers. I often find that if I eat even the tiniest piece of food, it stops the gagging in the track.

I have been stuck in a meeting before and resorted to literally emptying a packet of sugar and eating the sugar.

There seems to be some liknk to all this, whether it be nerves, or gastro intentinal, or whatever. Like several others I can go run for miles on the treadmill at the gymnasium, but I better have a power bar of grain bar, becuase my stomach will say ' feed me' and If I dont, I will start with dry heaves so bad, I will have to stop running.

Thats my story...

hmmm, i get this too. i had it before for about 6 months to a year and then have not had it for about three years since then until a few months ago when it started again.

i thought before that it was due to my quitting smoking at the same time. i get it often when i think about smoking or when going to have a smoke and it stopped three years ago when i more or less quit (i would still have 2 or 3 a week). i started smoking more about 8 months ago and about a month or two ago the gagging came back. but it did not bother me at all for about 3 years, i thought it went away :-(

like one other mentioned, drinking alcohol seems to help but i do not know why and it is not a great solution.

like others, i get it in the morning but i also get it throughout the day. it seems that it is random and if i can get my mind off of it, it goes away. it almost seems like it is in my head.

like others, i am also not into throwing up to lose weight or anything, i do not want this to happen.

i do drink a lot so i thought maybe the ulcer thing could be possible. i have acid reflux a lot as well. my father had an ulcer a while ago but he does not drink so i think that it was stress related (he does have a very stressful job).

lately i have been throwing up maybe a mouthful or so from time to time. just because i happen to get them when i have just finished eating.

it is really a hard thing to live with because i do not want to look like i am throwing up several times a day. a lot of times i just burp when there is not much in my stomach.

i eat very well and exercise but i do smoke and drink on a daily basis. hope some of this info help someone (or us all) out. at least it is good to hear that this is happening to others and not just me.

I am sitting here in utter amazement as I read through all of your responses. I too am a morning dry heaver. It started about 6 months ago. It happens every morning just after waking up. It usually happens as soon as I get in the shower. If I don't get a shower in the morning, it happens a little later. But it happens every morning. Nothing by saliva comes up unless I have just eaten. I am in relatively good shape, have no other ailments. I am under a lot of stress due our childs illness, but she has been sick for over a year now. After reading your posts, I am concerned that this can get a mind of its own and start happening throughout the day.

i've been really curious about my random dry heaving and i thought i was the only person alive with this problem.

i'm 19 right now and mine started when i was about 16, almost 17.
the first gaging episode happened when i played my first varsity game of water polo. i gaged until my eyes watered and i sucked it down and i was completely fine for the rest of the game.
after the years passed i noticed that i would gag when the weather would get really cold. the colder it is, the tighter my throat would get and the longer i would gag.
i would also gag when i smell anything abnormal. like anything that would be out of the norm to my day-to-day life.
i would also gag for about 5mins every morning when i start my morning routine.
i have puked from gaging maybe 5times the last 3years.

i have spoken to a doctor about it and the first one said it was a kind of turret. he was wack. the second doctor thought it was bronchitis but other than coughing i have no other symptoms.
im relatively healthy, and the most stress im under is school.

i'd love to know what going on with me since no one else seems to know

I have just found this forum,i also thought i was the only person with this problem.Mine started a couple of years ago while playing squash, usually towards the end of the match when ive run about a lot.Now it happens every game i play, whenever i have to go somewhere i dont like,ie the dentist, last time i heaved so much i gave up and went home.Even meeting my mates in the pub can trigger it.It seems to happen every morning, when it doesnt i worry, nothing comes up ,maybe some bile stuff.
I think it must be nerve related as it mainly happens when im going to do things. If i eat to much i feel a bit nauseas and keep clearing my throat
Any help would be great

I am so glad I found this forum. I have never heard of this problem until I started dry heaving about 5 months ago. It usually hit when I was really hungry, but now it seems to happen throughout the day. It started after a break-up...and then continued through a really stressful time at work. I lost my job about a month ago, and the dry heaving has gotten a lot worse in the last week or so. My therapist suggests that it is probably anxiety related. She thinks I should try Zoloft or other meds & recommended me to a psychiatrist. I would rather not go on mood-altering meds, so any advice would be much appreciated.
