I had a mammogram done about a month ago....and I actually was getting dressed and noticed in the mirror that I had an inch and a half to two inch cut under my right breast. I mentioned it to my mother and to my best girlfriend that happens to be a nurse and they thought they needed to know that. So my mom called the next day and they said they were glad we notified them but that this is quite common. And that sometimes people have very dry skin there. I have had numerous mammograms...and I've never ever been cut before neither has anyone else I've told this to. And my period has gone and yet both my breasts are still sore. I wonder now if it is from and excessively tight mammogram.
I had a mammogram one week ago and I am still experiencing pain in my left breast mainly, but some in my right breast as well. While the technician was pleasant, she was young and I think inexperienced. This was my third and final mammogram. The pain is so great and the risks of exposure to radiation is not worth it. There are thermal breast exams available. Just google that and find a more "natural" approach to breast exams. I, too, was called back, but will not return for a mammogram, but for thermography instead. I wish I had known before subjecting myself to all this pain.
I have experienced the same everytime I have a Mammogram I have excessive pain and I get burst vessels and bruising ... this has t be causing other problems internally ... I wonder if the machine was invented by a Man? I wonder if they would consider placing their testicles in one of these devices and let someone with a tricky button squash the hell out of them for the sake of mdicine?
I had one done 6 days ago, i have severe paining pain on my right upper back and around under arm, i have osteoporis too, what can i do..

I think it's time to "put it to them." I don't know under what circumstances you received the mammogram, but maybe it's time to make calls - (if I had an attorney, I would get the experience on record) - and -- well, I think they should arrange for treatment of your symptoms - whether it's having someone apply warm compresses or some kind of hydrotherapy or something else - we should not be injured in this process.
I would contact these folks. Then, if nothing happens, I would keep going up the ladder of responsibility. I say this knowing that even if a woman is without pain, this is an energy-draining process.
At least one solid complaint that you believe is heard. Applying warmth to the area may help, but I'm sure you've thought of that.
The thing is, all you need to hear is that this "happens." The bottom line is that no one in a position to take all our complaints on as a nationwide class action lawsuit - if only to bring attention to these problems - is reading this.
I am so very sorry you are in pain.

I'm disappointed to see no reply to your post. I too had a lot of pain in both breasts after a mammogram, and for that reason I'm not ever getting another one. I interpreted this as being evidence of damage to my breast tissue, not to mention the radiation. I've since also wondered what good it does to find out if you have breast cancer, as even women who get the 'standard' treatment seem to die anyway. I'd rather not know.

I"ve read both the above,I can relate to both. I had a mammogram this week,it was so painful I didnt even get the second one done. The lady asked me if I was nervous, I said no this is my second mammogram and it was uncomfortable last time, but this is excrutiating , hence I was left with bruising, and very sore chest bone pain, and pain under my armpit and up my neck. Im off to the docs tomorrow, Ive not felt this bad when I had it before. I agree must be some other way, would a MRI do the same thing, only difference in a mammogram is free and a MRI costs up to $ 600?? What to do??
I dont' think that subjecting ourselves to an MRI is an answer. One thing to do is to make a complaint with the facility.
Did you have the mammogram for a reason. Your age. Did you receive a thorough clinical breast exam - first you, yourself, then a medical practitioner. Things to wonder.
I think it's okay that there are not replys here. There are too many breast-related sites where women will "tell" others what to do. I see this as a place of anecdotal documentation.
Without some history - or maybe naming the facilitiy - the very good thing that may come of these statements is that more women will speak up.

I don't see a way to edit. Ultrasound. I believe that ultrasound of the breasts should be the first imaging performed. I understand the drawbacks.
I had a mammogram yesterday. It was the worst and most painful I have ever had. When I told the tech to turn it off, she said she couldn't. When I insisted she stop, she reluctantly did and changed it to another setting that was uncomfortable but not painful. This woman was cold and sadistic. I, too feel violated and abused victim. I complained to a woman on staff, and asked if they had another technician they used. Her main concern was not losing me as a patient. I don't believe I am the first one to complain. Next year I am going to insist on a ultrasound only.
Please do more than that. File a complaint with the State Board of Licensure. File a complaint with the American College of Radiology, if they are ACR-accredited for mammography. And, certainly, go to the head of that facility, with someone else along as a witness - say, for example, a local news reporter. Enough. So very sorry.
The first 2 mammograms I had were painful. I have never experienced wanting to hit a care giver before : / I bit my tongue and mentioned this on my next adventure. The surprisingly young and very concerned tech. said it is "unnecessary" to cause pain to get a good reading. Her reading was fine. Had another one a few days ago. id**t....again. I now too have stabbing pains on the right and are sore. Ultrasound sounds safer. Thanks for advise and please don't quit on your law suit! If the medical "Professional" doesn't have the time of day or doesn't value the paitents opinion then they shouldn't be in the medical field. At all.
I understand how you feel as I've had 4 mammograms since last summer due to being called back for a second look and then 6 month follow ups. I just had the most painful mammogram ever today. I literally had tears in my eyes it hurt so badly! I'm not only sore, but bruised and swollen right now and I can't believe that this has to happen. I've had many mammograms and never had anything like this. I plan on calling my doctor tomorrow, but what can they do when it seems the damage is already done? I don't ever want to go back!
I am a mammography technologist. I understand everyone's concerns. I work for a rural hospital. I do not work in a "breast" ceneter. I was taught under a lady that was ruthless with compression because that is what the Radiologist wanted. Things have changed and I am sorry so many women have problems. I WILL NOT overcompress. I let the ladies tell me when to stop. If it is way under compressed, I will try to re-work things and help her relax her muscles. My great aunt had the same expreience and I promised myself to never be the uncaring techologist only concered with perfect pictures that hurt. Mammograms do no cause your breast to be deformed. That is simply aging. You may not have noticed the changes because you were not looking that hard, but after a painful experience, you probably looked and felt them a lot more. You have every right to tell the technologist when to stop the compression! Overcompression does not give any better picture than good compression. The second look mammograms are focusing on areas that are different or concerning. It will be more painful. Ct breast imaging is not approved by the FDA yet and is not the standard of care. Screening mammograms are the only tool that can see microcalcifications that are the early signs of breast cancer. That is the whole point of screening mammograms, early detection.
I feel your pain..LITERALLY! I had my mammogram 3 days ago, and at a certain point I told them to stop due to a really bad pinching and burning sensation as if my skin was trapped along the edge of machine. it was nearly the end, so I gritted my teeth, and got through it. I have had tons of mammograms, never pain like this. Got to the car, and raised my top so my fiance'' could ck the area, and he was shocked, and said you are bleeding, a lot! it was hurting more and more etc. It was too late to get my doctor. So I have large breasts, and all I can do, is keep the 10 inch gash clean, and see my doctor tomorrow. The two techs, acted as though I was nothing more than two boobs in a machine. They did not remark about anything, so they will be reported. Mine does not seem much better, I hope your is very soon.

Had mine 3 days ago. Normally I deal well during the test, but this time when nearly done, I felt a searing burning pain, and thought possibly my skin was caught in the machine. i complained, I tried to reposition myself. We were done in a few more shots, with me gritting my teeth and holding back teatrs. athe 2 techs never asked if I wsd ok, or anything at all before I left. Their supervisor will be receiving this info on Monday. I am still bleeding, still in pain etc. I see my M.D. tomorrow. I hope you heal quickly, and that neirther of us ever has to go through this again!
