I started masturbating when I was about 18 and a half (didn't know it was common until then). I didn't know what I was doing and I didn't watch porn at the time, so it would usually take about a half hour or so, and I did it about once a day. I don't remember how bad it was then, I remember one time after doing it a lot there were scabs the next morning (I laid off for a bit). I remember periodically it would get irritated and I'd wait a couple days and it would get better. Sometimes I used lotion, sometimes I didn't (but I have used lotion exclusively over the past year or two). When I use lotion I wrap my thumb around the head (I'm circumsized) on top (dorsal) and use my fingers to rub up and down on the bottom (ventral).

I'm 22 now but over the last year or two it has gotten worse, mainly because I love masturbating while high on pot (it's quite a rush, try it) but it usually takes a long time to come-for the first several months it would always take a half hour to 45 minutes. So over the past couple years it's always been the same thing but getting worse, the skin is irritated and if I do it once a day for a while it gets too bad and I'll wait a couple of days until it improves a little bit.

I'm circumsized and use my left hand, so the skin where the shaft meets the head from the left side and in the middle particularly (on top as in dorsal) always looks badly irritated. It is obviously thinner than the rest of the skin and shinier when under the light, and where the skin meets the head is particularly irritated. I don't know what to do, one time I went about three weeks without masturbating and it improved, but the first time I did it again the problem came back and the second time put me right back where I started. I've had sex a couple of times and when I do it makes it much worse. I now mostly use the right hand since it seems to do less damage but still that doesn't solve the problem. When the skin gets particularly irritated, that section will get red.

Is there anything I can do to make the skin heal faster? If three weeks didn't do the trick, than how long will? Going three weeks without it was almost impossible. And now that I'm home alone for the summer with nothing to do, I'm afraid going a long time won't be. Maybe a different technique to try? Oh and it's not the pot because I do quit for long periods of time.
Go to The Doctors!!!

Rolfi,

Yes, obvi go to the doctor, but what you need to do is chill for awhile. Stop masturbating. I had a similar problem to yours, and it eventually healed just fine, and I've never had any problems in my sex life from it. Any problems I had were self-inflicted. So things will be totally fine---AS LONG AS YOU STOP; TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Learn how to masturbate differently.

Hope that sets your mind at ease. But don't be scared, go see a Doc.

Use a masturbation-specific lube -- the lotion might be irritating. Maybe try out some techniques that focus more on the base -- these can be really enjoyable, too. After showering, apply a lotion made for the penis like Man1 Man Oil, which will moisturize the skin and improve its condition!

Hi Rolfi:

The best lubrication for masturbation is the human foreskin. The highly innervated, erogenous foreskin is secured only at each extremity and is not attached to the underlying shaft of the penis. It is internally lubrication with lymphatic fluid and glides up and down the shaft of the penis without friction. The foreskin is filled with pleasure nerves that are stimulated by motion. This makes it ideal for masturbation.

Circumcision deforeskins the penis, shortens the available skin and makes it taut and immovable. Nineteenth Century doctors thought that would make masturbation impossible. It did not make impossible but it made it harder to do and less fun. As a circumcised, de-foreskinned male, you are somewhat handicapped for circumcision. You will need lubrication., not "lotion", whatever that is.

Since you don’t have a foreskin, then you will need external lubrication. You will need to learn to slide your hand up and down the shaft. Some males use a personal lubricant, which is designed to provide lubricant for sexual intercourse. Others may use petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline (which is greasy), baby oil, vegetable oil, or saliva. Some foreskinned males also like to use lubrication, although it is not strictly necessary.

Products with harsh and irritating chemicals should be avoided. Shampoo and body wash have been reported to cause irritation and should not be used.

Unforeskinned males who try to masturbate without lubrication are likely to suffer friction irritation and pain. You may put some Jergen’s lotion on your penis to soothe it. It should get back to normal in about a week.
