I am 44 and have been dealing with this itchy problem for over thirty years - since I was 13. Unfortunately, my children have also developed the condition (my daughter's legs only and only my son's back). It started with only my arms during a visit to England during the summer. About 4 months later back in the US, my arms stopped itching and my legs began. Since then, it has only been my legs (morning and night; worse in the summer; the more different the bathroom temperature is from the bedroom - the worse the itching is and the longer it lasts). I have noticed that regardless of the season it actually doesn't happen in all states. Being that I'm not one to take medicine for everything I had to find another way. Believe me this is better than itching for 30 min to an hour…
Over the years this is what has helped us the most in addition to using AmLactin Alpha-Hydroxy Therapy:
1) Make sure you have everything handy that you need for after your shower.
2) Set your water temperature as close as possible to the room you will be in afterwards.
3) Also try to keep the temperature in the bathroom* itself to the same temperature. We keep the door partially open to allow for air flow (**don't let the bathroom warm up before jumping in the shower).
4) Shorter showers are best... 5-10 minutes. Yes, you can clean everything properly with practice .
5) **PAT yourself dry.
6) If needed, apply AAHT Lotion. As per my doctor's recommendation, I starting using AmLactin about 4 years ago. It has been worth every penny for us. My daughter and I don't travel without it - just in case…even when visiting the beach and the pool.
7) Dressing in the bathroom can help.
8) Keep your mind *focused* on what you’ll be doing next.
9) *Don’t do anything* dealing with water contact for a while afterwards. For example: washing dishes or washing your hands.
I hope it works for you too. GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you FranG for your info. I absolutely agree that keeping calm is important. It *is* hereditary. My grandfather had it. I will definitely keep the rest of the info in mind. I just posted (8-10-16) what works for my children and I.

Unfortunately I have the same issue, age 35, and live in a home with well water. I've also lived in apartments with municipal water and had the same symptoms. It's the same if I'm sweating while working, and isn't helped by jumping in the pool because as soon as I get out the itching blasts back on again. The only relief I've ever found is taking a warm shower with soap/water (especially shampoo, don't know why).

I tried taking this supplement called three-lac or something like that, have tried benedryl and nothing. It's also at it's absolute worst in the summer, almost gone during the winter, leading me to believe it's likely pollen-related but I don't know how/why that makes any sense.

I am a 53 year old male and I have been dealing with this horrible ITCH when i sweat and after showers since i was 37 when it started. I have tried everything to get rid of it.
I changed soaps, shampoos, deodorant, laundry soap. i tried every lotion available.
i went to Dermatologist, allergist, holistic quacks, holistic bell ringing mantra chanting quacks and a witch woman from the Island of Tobago ( she sold me swamp water from which i contracted intestinal parasites) and i also tried shark oil that made me turn green and throw up. I finally found the Answer. " ACIDOSIS" the body is out of balance, way too acidic.in todays fast paced life we eat too much fast food, processed foods, sugar, cereals, fillers, red meat and we live on COFFEE and SODA.
Do you eat a well balanced diet, lots of fruits and veggies?
yeah me neither. once i reduced all the ACIDIFYING foods and started eating more ALKALIZING foods the itching slowly went away. i also just learned that ACIDIFYING foods exacerbate PSORIASIS ( this sucks).

I get this itching which is worse at night. For me I think it is because of sweat. I play a lot of sports - 5 nights a week and I have sensitive skin. I live in Nova Scotia and here the cold weather doesn't help - sucks sll the moisture out of my skin. I bought a humidifier and take lukewarm showers and I moisturize out of the shower. It is helping
