I haven't read through all of the comments, so I don't know if someone has already mentioned this... but if you are Asian, part of the problem may be mixing alcohol with food (I'm half-Japanese).
Over the course of college I was able to drink less and less, until I stopped drinking all together. In my early 20s I moved to Taiwan and started going out again, after a couple times of drinking without having dinner, I realized the correlation between mixing food and alcohol. This has been the case ever since, so if I want to go out and drink I do not have dinner. The worst kinds of food are those high in protein and fat, so I can have salad and other veggies. The WORST mix is fat+sugar (i.e., dessert), I get SO sick after this, my heart rate and blood pressure goes through the roof and I will eventually throw up if I've eaten a lot. If I just have a few bites of food I am usually fine, but more than that and my "allergic" reaction lasts as long as it takes to fully digest. If I've had a lot to drink the night before I can also get the same reaction after eating breakfast.
A lot of people don't believe me when I tell them about this, but sometimes I slip up and eat after drinking and then they see the result and get it! I've only met 3 other people with this affliction, all were Asian (Korean, Japanese and Thai).

this is good man, thanks.

I am so worried about myself now. :(
This is my first time getting drunk.

This. And society tells us we should all be able to process this drug the same, which is not the case. If these symptoms are happening to you, stop drinking permanently and more than likely the problem will go away...
How about this: When I do drink alcohol, I fall asleep/pass out, sleep well, and wake a bit before dawn with a pounding, but not rapid heartbeat. Then, it goes away, I fall back to sleep and wake up fine. I take a lot of vitamins daily, including at least 2 B-50 complex, so I never have hangovers. Now, when I don't drink, as soon as I lay down to sleep, I start having skipped heartbeats with intermittent pounding heartbeat. It's very distracting and keeps me from relaxing to go to sleep and I don't understand the laying down correlation. If I sit up a bit, the skipped beats stop. That's the part I don't get, that when I don't drink, I still don't fall to sleep smoothly and get a good night's rest. I take propranolol, HClT, and enalapril for HBP and irregular heartbeat.
I am going to try a low dose OTC thyroid supplement which contains some B vitamins, minerals, thyroid powder and iodine, tyrosine and Ashwagandha Extract. Thyroid problems run in my family as does CHF and HBP.

A common theme here is that allergy medications help the condition. For me Claritin (loratadine) and Benadryl (diphenhydramine HCl) both work to, within 20 minutes, relieve excess beating heart, slow breathing, stop sweats, etc. Medical experts might say that allergy meds have a sedating affect so are simply treating the symptom. However, loratadine is less sedating than most allergy meds and I find it to also be the most effective. Therefore, I conclude that this is evidence for the idea that this is ultimately an acetaldehyde allergy of some sort related to alcohol in combination with other environmental factors (such as cold or dry weather which may also trigger allergy symptoms).
Me too i miss drinking
32 male, regularly drink 1-2 beers with an occasional party night (6-8ish).
Out of nowhere, 1 beer makes me sick and more than doubling my heart rate, and 3 beers make me puke. Gin? No problem.
Then I noticed that my heart rate goes up after I eat cereal, pasta, barley,... dammit, it was the GLUTEN in the malt. Totally unrelated to alcohol.
Check for allergens, my friends. Quitting drinking might not actually solve your problems.

Google "micturition syncope"
Did the CPAP work or are you still having the problem?
Has this continued to work? My history and sym6arr exactly as you described. I've trued vitamins, mag and even NAC to various degrees. Haven't tried Zantac yet, but will. Thank you so much for posting. I miss the occasional drinks with my husband and friends as well.
this has worked for me also
Hi Carol, what your explaining sounds like you could be my twin. I am 40, also have the same thyroid issues, can't drink alcohol or I get pounding so bad it shakes my body. I also have low blood pressure. I try to take a multivitamin with magnesium and iron and that seems to help a little bit but not enough to make a dent in the way I feel. Please let me know if you have figured anything out to solve this issue.
I've suffered for at least 10 years. 3-5 hours after going to sleep. The only one night I didn't get it in all that time was when I was away with friends and a very LOUD snorer in the bed next to me! Kept me awake until well gone 5.. we'd been out drinking all night. No reaction, no waking up scared for what was going to happen.
Are our brains just expecting it, are we getting worse by panicking ourselves? One episode years ago seems to habe snow balled.
Just a thought.
Has anyone tried a few drinks at lunch time? Does it occur the same at 6-8pm at night as it would 3-5am?
Check your heavy metals such as mercury, aluminium etc. They make everything go crazy such as thyroid, hormones pituitary and heart racing.
