Hi I have also been experiencing this strong heartbeat pounding in my head each night.  We have just come back from a holiday where we were at high altitude and it was worse.  I do have a Meninginoma in my head, but was told by a Neurologist this was not a problem as it is way too small.   I am also perimenopausal.  I have looked this up and a lot of people with this problem have a blocked carotid artery.  My mother died from an Aneurysm so I have been worried.  I am going to the Doctors to ask to get this checked as quite alot have been disgnosed with this problem.. Hope this helps

I was told by my cardiologist that this can be NORMAL in some people, the same way some people feel SVT's, PVC's and PAC's (look them up). We all have them but only some are sensitve enought to actually FEEL them. I am lucky enough to have all and now that I am at my change of life....THIS started. This heart beat is different though. My cardiologist explained that some people get it when they lean over, some when they take showers, etc. I would tell all who experience it to have their heart thoroughly checked including a heart echo and stress test.

The same thing happens to me it drives me crazy when I try to sleep and I can't get comfortable because of my heart beating so hard. I have such a hard time sleeping to begin with and I believe this is all from stress.

I just started to have the same exact problem as you guys, i`m 18 years old and for like 2-3 days I started having heavy heart beats at almost an exact hour everyday.I go thru my day and when I get home and stay at the computer, at about 4:30, my heart starts to beat pretty hard, I really fear for my life because I also have high bloodpressure and I fear of a vein popping in my head or smth bad like that. The best thing I can do to get rid of this is to stand up, go to sleep or go outside and play smth like basketball to get my mind bussy so that I don`t think about it.

Also, today I felt smth new, after I woke up and stood at the pc, I felt two very powerfull heartbeats one after the other, I though I was going to die right there, it felt like a palpitation, but then everything went back to normal.

I really hate this thing, it really f*** with my mind, and i`m usually paranoid, so it`s even worse when you think you are going to die everytime this thing happens.

I also get pretty anxious when I get in certain situations, that might be a problem too.

It`s really strange what`s happening.....when I wasn`t diagnosed with high bp I had nothing, my life was great, I didn`t even though about my bloodpressure and things like that. After I went to the doctor and started taking medications, I started thinking more and more about my bloodpressure and my heartbeats.I just hate what`s happening right now with me....

The guy that said that thing: mind over matter is right. I think the best thing we can do is to first go get checked to make sure that everythings is allright and then either go to a psychiatrist and get things sorted out, or just try to change your mood when this happens.Start telling jokes to someone, watch something funny, get cocky...you get the idea, I think it will definitely help.

PS: lay down on your bed, try to clear your head of any things that might float in there and just relax completely with that on your background...hopefully it helps...

Hi my name is Liam..29year old, 6ft 1, 14 stone. exersise regularly.

I have come across this on the net and makes me realize i am not the one and only person who feels these symptoms. Strong heartbeat not fast just so strong, light headiness, headaches, upper left back swelling pain,

Last April approx 15months ago i went out on a night out binge drinking and woke up with head shaking , body shaking feeling starnge... Not a hangover just really strange sensations of my body shaking.

Later that day i felt faint when shopping and had an ambulance called. My blood pressure was quite high 155/95. Everything else regarding tests was fine. It hads benn 15months since and the sensation hasnt gone. I have tried all of the following....

Doctors - countless times... Im now a season ticket holder

Ambulance called out 3 times

Countless A & E visits,

Loads ECG tests

Countless blood tests

24 hr BP monitors / 24 hr ecg monistors,

Urine samples / Thyroid checks /

MRI Scan of head and arteries

2 Echo ultrasound on heart

MRI of spine

Stress treadmill test

Paid private for 2nd opinion for cardioliogists

Paying private for chliropractor

Medication tried beta blockers ( Sent my hrate too low ended up in hospital ), had dizapans , even gave me a spray for under tongue , now on sertraline.

Etc etc etc

Ive stopped drinking, dont smoke, do light exersise, eat healthy, take little caffiene etc.

Doctors only found slight above average blood pressure, MRI on spine found a herniated thoracic disc.

Been fobed off saying anxiety which i took on board and have spent countless more money on councilling / healthy minds / learnt to chill out / looking into budhism / mindfulness etc.

I have tried everything and everythink. I used to get fraustrated / annoyed that nobody believes me that i am alone in this but now come to the conclussion if i die i die, i have and am trying my best to get to bottom of this. I have to live in the now and live the best i can with this back pain and strange strong heartbeat headaches etc...

I will keep looking for the answer as next is a gastrolgist to check gullet / stomach.

I know my body and i know something is wrong. The possitives are i now live in the now, realize life is more about being relaxed and not about materialistic propergander stuff...

If anybody with simiar symptoms ever gets to the bottom please message me as would be so appreciated...

Stop obsessing over your heart rate. If we die we die, live life enjoying it because if you don't, you've failed.

Hey guys everything yall have i have but i read alot to see what it is. Therr panic or anxiety attacks. When you sleep you get that ugly feeling your heart races your breathe become short your stomach churns. Theres a high possibility it is anxiety. If you worry alot or just an angry person. You build this over time especially as an athlete. Its just an unckmfortable feeling. Just get your mind off it and breathe so your brain could get oxygen amd you can think right. If you cant breathe. Like your short of breathe but you can say a few words and your stil breayhing your a shallow breather and you only get enough oxygen in your body to leave the reason for this is cause your forrgeting to exhale . Exhale with your mouth open and apush in your chest.

The only thing I found that works is to STOP THINKING ABOUT IT ! the more you think the worse it gets !! guys, please, if you experience this just do something that request focus, like gaming, jogging, talking to someone, SOMETHING that will keep your mind busy !! that`s the only think I found that works.

Would like to reply to this thread. Just throwing this out there and it might not be the issue for all or many but search 'histamine intolerance'. This condition causes some of the symptoms described.

If it's not perimenopause, it could be anxiety. I have anxiety & mine feels like that sometimes too.

Hi- my son is 13 yrs old too and experiencing the same. We went to see cardiologist few months ago and it seems everything is all good. But, then he felt his heartbeat again beating so strong, literaly strong heartbeat just 30 mins ago and the time now is 10:58pm, as a mum I am worried and I can't sleep worrying about this condition. We will see the doctor again first thing in the morning. Hoping to get the answer why his heartbeat is beating so strong and loud.

I had this also and it was low potassium.  Potassium has alot to do with your heart beating at a normal pace.  If your electrlytes are off (sodium and potassium) this can happen with your heart.  I was drinking too much caffeine also and unrinating alot and losing electrlytes.  I cut down on caffeine, starting eating one or two bananas each day, drinking milk, eating potatoes, drinking orange juice, etc.  foods high in potassium.  It will take a day or so but I saw results.
