Feeling a strong pulse in right shoulder...I'm 60 yrs old what is causing this?
Reply
Hi
I am a 41 year old male, full time working, football coach on the weekends. I have had heart palpitations and strong heart beat (can see my chest move and hear it in my mouth too) for some years now, my doctor sent me for an ECG and performed some tests and all comes back clear. The big thing is that 12 months ago my palpitations escalated and began to feel particularly tired and weak. I had blood tests and another ECG and whilst the ECG came back clear, the blood tests showed my thyroid was not working. I'm now on a replacement (levothyroxin) and feel nearly back to normal although the strong heart beat and palpitations persist. I can run / exercise hard and not have palpitations and then out of the blue they will start up again. My instincts tell me this is related to thyroid in my case, i have to add my consultant told me this was not likely.

I think it could be stress related and fixation. Try to distract yourself and maybe mindfulness - this helps you not panic and is great for recognising your own bodies' natural rhythms. This way you should soon be able to tell if thinking about it makes it worse, if this is the case then its almost certainly stress related. There could be something else going on but i would try to rule out the stress first.

I've been experiencing the same symptoms but didn't know how to describe it. I am also thinking this can not be real, can't tell anyone and it must be all in your head. I am 64 years old and was so confused regarding this issue.

Thank you

I am an active 62 year old female, in May I had, out of the blue, a Superventricular Tachycardia event (I thought I was having a heart attack). Since then, I have had problems like all the above folks, when I lie down at night, I have this heavy heartbeat that is impossible to sleep through. It lasts for hours. EKG and Telemetry results (2 weeks of wearing monitor) turned up nothing. They tell me to avoid caffeine and try to reduce stress. Antidepressants don't help. Antianxiety drugs don't help. I am exhausted. There has got to be more going on than just stress.

Ive been having the same issues now for weeks. Its actually a relief to know that so many other people have the same issue and its not life threatening. Should go and see the doc and get checked out anyway right??

Oh, this post is REALLY old!
I'm suffering from this too, I'm 17 years old and it has started two years ago. Last time it happened was in the past two hours, my head still hurts really bad and I feel so dizzy.

I have been feeling this for a long time, probably 30 to 40 years but, as I have got older it is much more intense. As you say it is just nerve racking and the same symtoms at night. If I consume alcohol, wow it really does it.

6 months ago I had a really stressful time as well... and that's when these weird heart beats started.
Sometimes I feel as if my heart stops for a fraction of a second and then it beats harder.
My doctor said everything is fine but I get so scared about this feelings.
I don't know what to do.
Does anyone have an answer?
