I took doxycycline hyclate (100 mg twice per day) for two months for acne. Everything was fine until two months in. I woke up with severe burning in my upper chest and throat. I took the doxycyline for about 2 more weeks but then decided to quit. The worst side effect is I experience irritated upper gum pain whenever I speak. This has been ongoing for about almost 4 months now and I've been off the doxycyline for about that same time. I'm hoping this isn't permanent but no doctor (Dentist, ENT, Gastroenterologist, Allergist, Periodontist) can diagnose it because there appears to be nothing. I'm so fed up with this c**p and wish I had never taken it.
Apparently this can happen with Doxycycline - had the same thing happen to me. The pill gets stuck and causes your esophagus to become ulcerated which is very painful for about 2-3 weeks. I could not even eat when it happened to me - only liquids.
I am goin through the same thing after taking the same med before bed. Help it is so uncomfortable
I take a ton of pills for several chronic conditions and this has happened a few times in the last couple weeks with some of the larger ones. Feeling like it sticks, chest pain, burping, feeling sick, drinking water and eating crackers did nothing. I thought it was heartburn at first (I've never had it so I wasn't sure what it was supposed to feel like, and it seemed odd that a pill would cause it) so I chugged a glass of water with a spoonful of baking soda mixed in since that was the only thing I could think of to neutralize it and that did ease it up for a few hours. But I'm not sure if it just neutralized a bit of the corrosive contents of the pill or if it was just a coincidence. It came back a few hours later but eventually went away over the next day or two.
I was told eating hot solid foods are good for this. The heat relaxes your esophagus and makes it expand while the solid food helps whatever is stuck to go down. I'm going to try it the next time
Thank you for the coffee suggestion! I had a vitamin stuck in my chest & was having heartburn pretty badly. Tried bread, water, jumping up & down. Nothing helped until I tried the coffee. The heat must have dissolved it cause the pressure is gone!! Hallelujah!!!
