47 year old femane - for about 20 years I've get the hard thickened skin on fingers (mainly thumb & pointer & middle fingers) and the bottoms of my feet, particularly heels. Stress, water, cleaning products and salt water affect my skin. To avoid cleaners, I wear expensive flock lined rubber gloves but my hands still sweat in them and bubble & peel anyways. I've tried every cream including udder balm and medications with cortisone which seldom do any good. I have found a product that does help - "Allpresan" made in Germany and is a cream foam. In Canada I am able to purchase through some beauty salons or hair/beauty product suppliers. This product has 10% Urea which is the active working ingredient. No surpise that it's recommended for diabetics. This product is a solution but the condition is reoccurring which is the problem. I've done cleanses, altered my diet, you name it - frustrated and embarrassed and want to find the root cause of this anoying and ugly condition! Been to doctors - they say it's eczema - but it's not! I highly recommend Alpresan but still looking for the root cause. Anyone have any further answers or suggestions?
Where can I buy this Cream? this sounds like my same condition.
I'm 48yrs female. Been having this same problem of hard thickened fingertips that come up cracking & peels. This can be very painful when peeling. This also affect my heels also. I've tried so many things to no avail. How can I get Alpresan cream to buy or is there any other solutions to this?

It could very likely be a sign of hypothyroidism. Check to see if you have the other symptoms related to it and also do the relevant tests. In this case, Iodine helps too.

I had to laugh to your answer, even though maybe it's not the right place & time :) If things were only as simple as Dr. Know-it-all kindly explained to us. This is not something to brag about, but I'm not using pen or writing on paper for quite some time now, as my job completely ties me to the computer keyboard. Not to go through describing the symptoms - they are almost identical to what others have described. I clean my keyboard every day, make sure I use moisturizing hand cream and I asked my physician about this and it's not caused by fungal infection. So, if anyone managed to solve this problem, I'd be very grateful for any advice or recommendations as to which cream might work better,
Thanks in advance,
Nicole

I've had this problem for just a week. Started 6 days ago with the skin on both my thumbs peeling (now almost down to the middle of my thumbprint) then during the last 3 days another 4 other fingers began peeling. Now another 2 feel numb like they will start too.
I've had a similar experience 8 years ago - after getting loads of nettle stings the skin on all my fingers and toes peeled off, doctor said it was the nettle toxins accumulating in my digits. Anyway this time I've not had any stings or bites that I'm aware of and my toes are fine.
Tried various moisturisers and drinking more water. Plasters just make them moist after a while, even the breathable ones. Its getting annoying and my fingers are looking rough, plus it's really hard not to pick them! I'm going to give it to the end of this week and I'll go to doctors next week if it's still going on.

I have the same skin issue with the index and thumbs will develop a small circle which hardens and feels numb. After a few days, the circle begins to peel and becomes extremely sore and at time bleed. The only thing I have found to help is put bandages over them with vaseline to keep it moist until is decides to heal. The dermotologists has given me exzema cream which contains steroids which does not help any more than just the plan vaseline. It's just a lot more expensive. Does anyone have any ideas how to heal this skin disorder?

Ive done much research on this issue and have had this issue on my hands on fingers ever since I can remember. I am now 46. I typically get it right before winter comes about. The issue is called dyshidrotic-eczema. There are many forms, many different symptoms, and different levels.
For me, the only thing that works is Tea Tree Oil and Coconut Oil mixed together. Rub on affected areas and then get some latex gloves put them on and let them soak for a couple hours. Its an inconvienence for awhile with the gloves on, but its oily and at least you can do some things with the gloves on.
