So, I am 17 and never had sex.

Last night, I did masturbate same as I have done (for the same duration as usual and without lubricant, as I never have used it before and had no problems), but it may be a possible reason.

Anyway, the tip of the foreskin near the head has swollen up (however, just a small part of it, near the bottom).
It does not itch, hurt, nor feel any different from my usual penis, though the swelling causes a bit of discomfort; this may just be the swollen part chafing against my underpants. However the swollen foreskin does scare me.

Today, seeing my girlfriend's bra through her shirt made me erect. As I was volunteering for an event, I was busy and did not use the restroom all day, and my foreskin had been peeled all the way back for at least 8 hours.

Simply put, it is swollen now and I am not sure what is the cause or treatment. Did I get bitten? Is this normal? Should I be worried?

I know I should stop masturbating for a few days, but will this go away soon and is it anything to worry about?
My mother, a nurse, has taken a look at it and advises a sort of cream (she said "steroid") to apply to it daily after a shower and good cleaning.

Thanks, I am very worried and would like to see this matter resolved and my heart at ease.
Well, your mother seems well qualified, and the only people better qualified are doctors: so if you don't trust mom, go see a doctor.

However, I will say that, yes, if you get too harsh, your penis can respond by swelling, and not the comfortable kind - and it sounds like you're referring to the frenulum, the narrow strip of skin connecting the head of penis to the loose sheath of skin of your penis (underneath) - the outer skin that moves in relation to the underlying 'rigid' (filled with blood, it's not a muscle) sponge under pressure.

It's extremely difficult to damage yourself permanently through masturbation - nature's kind - and it takes bizarre acts with lethal objects that end up causing a chuckle, sigh, or whatever (not in the patient's presence of course) in doctor's surgeries. If it's possible, it's been done. You have done nothing that onerous. Chill - don't see your girfriend (light hearted recommendation) - 8 hours huh? She's going to be happy when you're both of age.
