Exactly this for me (except I'm 50). Almost always when I'm starving and I eat pork or chicken quickly. Then I get so much mucus in my stomach/throat (and bubbly) that I can't eat/drink until I either upchuck it or get a good burp worked up. Until then, it feels like something is stuck in my chest. Other than being careful to avoid it, I'm wondering if there's some way to get over it more quickly.
That is horrible! I sure hope you get some answers ad relief! Gheesh! Blessings to ya
my husband had to go to a gastroenterologist and have esphageal dialation done twice after the second time he was placed on omeprazole and has never choked or gagged again, I have hypothyroidism which cause digestive problems and mine feels lodged in my stomach, make them check your tsh and breakdown t3 t4
I just can't believe all the answers you've received so far...this condition is mainly associate with stress and mental blocking while eating.. too much going on on his head to eat properly..
you should make an nice environment when he comes from work.. make him relax.. something cool.. wild sex might help.. be creative..
I am a 39 yr old female and i have the same problems, after i eat food gets stuck in my throat and then it feels like i have to vomit. sometimes i vomit and sometimes i dont it just feels like i do.. This does not happens often but when id do its scary..I am thinking a blockage or something, I will be making me an appointment this time..Good Luck everyone..
Clearly a tumor would not be the case if it only happens on occasion. A tumor does not go away and grow back. I have this issue on occasion, and I'm having the worst ever incident of it right now.
But PLEASE, PEOPLE!!! Learn the difference between "breathe" and "breath"! The first is a verb, something you do (hopefully), and the second a noun, the thing you take when you inhale air. This is second grade-level stuff. I'm totally amazed that about 70% of the adult population, apparently, does not know the difference, or doesn't care enough to learn.
What on Earth does that mean?
i have same problem but i eat slow.... i means i dont feel like eating and even before my stomach start paining
Hi, i think this is the symptoms of depression. Eating too fast is important symptom of anxiety.

This is a little serious problem, because when a person feel very hungry and he cannot eat properly it causes irritation and frustration. In my opinion you should ask your husband to eat very small bites, ask him to eat slowly and after chewing completely. Drink warm water in early morning and at night. During eating avoid talking and thinking. Ask him to only concentrate on eating.
I have a very similar problem, I am a 40 yr. old male - it's happened for years (since around 2004) but only every so often- maybe every couple months or so.. it does seem to only occur w/ meats (chicken, pork & steak). This week it has happened twice and I am finally considering going to a Dr. to have it checked out.. I made steaks on the grill 2 days ago and I had a very bad spell after only maybe two bites, the flem seemed very persistent to push the meat up & out.. after struggling for about 15 minutes w/ just flem coming up a small piece of meat came up, but there was what seemed to be a larger piece stuck at that midway point.. I spent another 45 minutes trying to assist the flem in its attempt to extract it. It got to a point that scared me and I thought I'd choke.. so I just stood there and allowed the flem to continue until there was a shift downward and I quickly drank water to push it down..
Needless to say, I did not finish my dinner (that I was really looking forward to:( ).. I ate a bowl of serial instead and drank fluids because my throat was soar. So fast forward to about an hour ago, I brought my leftover meal to work for lunch and after 2 bites.. here we go again.. I'm still dealing w/ the flem as I type this. I read all these posts, and I feel all your pain.. it sucks, especially since it tends to happen to me right after a couple bites completely ruining the meal I am about to have.. it's even happened w/ chicken wings.. so it's not the size of the meat like some may think.. it's completely random for me, so much so that a buddy of mines gave a box of his Prilosec OTC (although I don't believe it's acid reflux) and I've tried to use it but it hasn't happened in maybe 4+ months so it tends to catch me off guard.
Sorry if some of that doesn't flow (grammar nazi)... but I've stopped repeatedly to unload the flem, if I find a solution (or a cause for that matter) I'll come back here and post what i find.. good luck to you all.

Chances are he has a condition called eosinophilic esophagitis. The cause is not clear, but thought to be a food allergy. Either way, an inflammation occurs because of a large amount of eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) in the throat. The number one symptom is swallowing issues. The diagnosis is typically an EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) where they go down the throat with a scope and take a small sample. It is a simple procedure and involves minimal anesthesia. Treatment is simply a steroid squirted in the back of the throat. If it is thought to be a food allergy, obviously avoiding that food is important. He could also have a stricture. With that, they will do an EGD, and then go in with Bougies to dilate the esophagus. Or it could be acid reflux. Sounds like eosinophilic esophagitis to me though.
Hi, I have the exact same thing happen. I am very healthy and your explaination is the only one I read that discribes my condition as well. Have you found out anything about it yet? I dont have medical insurance so going to a doctor isnt an option right now :(
Yes it is acid reflux....or esophagael strictures caused by acid reflux. I have the same thing. My medication doesn't always work. Get medicated and change your diet. Avoid coffee, chocolate, alcohol, and too much sugary or fatty foods (so basically, all the good foods in life). Being overweight will also make it worse. Eat smaller meals more often and chew slowly.....and relax.
