Suddenly a very sharp twisting pain occurred, and this took my breath away. Pain subsided for a few days them reoccurred, and did not settle. Ended up in hospital this weekend- cannot bear the area to be touched. Blood tests and x-rays come back fine, pain is directly between the belly button incision and the one just under the breast area. Drs say no infection found, ultrasound scan shows no abnormalities, unlikely to be a hernia as not directly at incision points, and no obvious bulge.
home now with pain killers. Could this be the same as jdinpc , and if so how do I suggest this to the Doctors?

I just found out I have a hernia at my side from a gallbladder removal surgery that happened years ago. Went to pain management and he was shocked at where one of my healed incision is. Where it is at is clear on my side, right above the rib/ liver. I have had been having pain for months, a stabbing burning pain and I thought it was because I have been working out and I pulled something. It wasn't till I started vomiting uncontrollably that I knew it wasn't a muscle. First they looked at my liver but that came back normal. There is one spot (right where this incision is) that makes my whole side hurt. If you have someone push along the area and you can pin point exactly what hurts and the pain spreads, more than likely it is a hernia or something wrong. Hope I helped.

I had my gallbladder out 5 years ago. I eas in pain for a few days, thought it was heartburn. Couldn't take the pain any longer so phoned the doctors surgery and was told there was a lot of stomach flu going about, so go to bed and take pain killers. This was the nurse who told me this. I insisted that I see a doctor right away and was told no one was available. My husband insisted that we get in the car and go to the doctors. When I arrived there one of the doctors wasn't happy at me being told what I was told from the nurse. He took me to accident and emergency who diagnosed that i Had pancreatitis, gallstones and something else. I was admitted and I was on antibiotics for 2 weeks to clear the pancreatitus, then they took me into theatre to remove my gallbladder by keyhole. Everything was going well until a few days later I was fainting and started to bleed.I was taken back to theatre for the doctors to open me up and sort out the problem. After being in hospital for 3 weeks 5 days I was sent home. I had district nurses coming into the house for 3 months as my wound would not close properly. my side started to swell.I went back for my checkup and was told by the doctor to lose a bit of weight and it would go away. As I was losing weight the swelling was getting bigger. I eventually was diagnosed with 3 hernias along my scar from the operation. I still have them, but one in particular keeps getting bigger. The doctors have now told me it is too risky to operate as I probably wouldn't survive the surgery. I now feel deformed as this is getting bigger. it also means that if I am going out I have to be careful what I am wearing so it does not show. I feel embarrased about it but theres nothing I can do about it. I am 38 years old and feel like a freak. Hope this does not happen to anybody else. I feel sorry for anybody who developes a hernia as it is embarressing.
Good luck to everybody

My doctor said that quite often a hernia like this can cause lateral pain at the sides, not at the hernia site.
I go go for surgery in 8 days and I hope it fixes the pain.
