Guests I know what your going through. I had the very same problem finding a doctor who would take my gallbladder out. I finally came to my last appointment armed with handfuls of information about my pain and symptoms and how it matched with gallbladder dysfunction. I told the surgeon that I would take the responsibility of having it out. Just schedule me a date. Sure enough it was taken out and don't you know it was so sick and scarred even she couldn't believe it. I FEEL BETTER! I want you know know that if you know it's your gallbladder than it probably is. Good luck and keep looking for that doctor who will listen!
What I don't understand is when they took your galbladder out and it was sick and scarred, why wasn't that showing up on any of the tests? I go in tomorrow for a full MRI - after 2 months of this I'm so tired of negative results. How can a sick galbladder not show up on any test?
I had terrible gallbladder symptoms for about a year but everytime I went to the doctor, they could not find anything wrong. I was told I was constipated -- which is very infuriating when you know what constipation feels like and THIS IS NOT THAT FEELING! I felt like I just ate 3 gigantic Thanksgiving dinners and could not digest anything. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore and went to the emergency room. Luckily, they did the ultrasound while I was experiencing the severe pain. Finally, they found gravelly-type gallstones blocking the tube in the gallbladder. When I was not experiencing the pain, the gravel material would settle back down and was not detected by the ultrasound. By the time they took my gallbladder out, it was almost gangreen. Next time you are in agony, demand an ultrasound at that time and maybe they will be able to detect smaller types of stones. Good luck. Since the day I had my gallbladder out, I have never had another pain like that in my stomach again. That was 13 years ago! P.S. I was only 25 at the time and not really a gallbladder candidate.
I've been reading with amazement about all of you who have mostly the same symptoms I have and yet the gall bladders tests all come back normal. I'm at my wits end and very emotional because nothing is being done and I continue to be in pain every day. The doctor has been giving me pain meds, but wants to decrease those with no answer. Has anyone experienced high blood pressure as a result of this never ending pain? My blood pressure had always been 117/78. At it's height, before I started taking pain meds, it was 154/105. I keep telling the doctor the blood pressure is a result of the pain. I will see the doctor on Tuesday and I'm hoping to take some of this information to her and, hopefully, she will consider removing my gall bladder before something bad happens. Thanks for being willing to share. It has helped me!
Hi! I am a 26 year old female and I cannot tell you how glad I am to have found this forum. I have been having all of the same issues for the past 5 months and am to the point where I feel like I am going crazy. I have had several tests done: colonoscopy, CAT Scan, Ultrasound and am awaiting my HIDA Scan results. I have had more bloodwork than I care to think about and have ZERO answers. All tests have come back negative and I feel like no doctor out there is really hearing me. I have constant diarrhea, my stomach bloats to the point I look like I'm 3 months pregnant. I feel like someone is in my stomach stabbing me with a knife yet, all the doctors do is put me on new meds. The meds help for all of a week or two for just the pain, my stomach still bloats. After a week or two my body adapts to the drugs and the unbearable pain returns. I am to the point I want to go to the ER when these attacks hit but I feel like it's not truly an emergency as after several hours - 2 days the pain subsides. Fatty foods go right through me and some foods just don't even digest. I feel lousy all the time and know that things just aren't right yet no one is listening to me. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Since this past April, when I ended up in the ER and diagnosed with Biliary Dysfunction, I have been having almost constant RUQ abdominal pain. It only stopped, when I was on 2 very strong antibiotics for an unrelated condition. Since I finished the last round, of Antibiotics, I am suffering from the RUQ pain, again. It seems to worsen after I eat, and yes, I am a bit nauseous, too. It worsens when I bend forward, or bend my trunk. So far, the 2 ultrasounds I have had were negative, as was my HIDA. I am now in the process of scheduling a CAT Scan. I am so relieved to hear, that I am not the only one, with negative tests, but, with positive GB symptoms. I am at the point, where I feel like it is all in my head, but, it really isn't. I am watching what I eat, and try to avoid red meats, and fatty/greasy food. I am not one to enjoy fried foods, and I tend to follow my weight watchers diet, to maintain my weight. I am not overweight. I have normal cholesterol levels.
So, I am glad to find a bunch of people in my same situation.
I am so relieved to know that other people have similar problems. I have also been suffering from what I think are gall bladder symptoms for over 1 1/2 years. It all started about a month after I began taking birth control pills. I tried three different kinds to try to feel better and no luck, so I finally went off of birth control and have been off for 8 months now, but I am still having the same symptoms.

I have had bood work, ultra sound, HIDA scan, and endoscopy, which all came back normal. I am convinced it is my gallbladder, but my test don't show it. My main symptom is extreme chronic nausea. I also have a pain that starts in my right shoulder and works it way down to underneath my right shoulder blade and sometimes radiates to my front side when I breath in deeply, but it usually is just in my back. I also constantly feel full. I am also extremley tired. Frequently it seems like it is hard for me to breath. I burp all the time, which I never did before, and I feel bloated often. I also frequently have a bad taste in my mouth that won't go away. Just recently I have developed a new symptom, but it might not be related; I have had a chronic cough for about 3 months now and it just keeps getting worse. I went to the doctor for it and he said that I was wheezing and wanted to treat me as an asthmatic patient and gave me an inhaler and some steriods, but I have never had asthma. The inhaler and steriods do absolutly nothing for me.

I would like to know everyone else's opinion on my symptoms. Does this sound like a gall bladder problem?
I just got word from my MD that my bladder and all internal organs looked normal after the ultrasound. I do have gallstones and have had pain in the upper-right quadrant lasting 20 minutes to several hours, alternating constipation/diarrhea, excessive boating, and the episodes seem to be occurring with more frequency.

Is it normal for me to be having these symptoms without any swelling of the gallbladder? I'm beginning to wonder of this is all in my head.
Just like many of you, I have been convinced that I have a gall bladder problem because my symptoms match perfectly, but all my test come out negative. My doctor has just suggested that I might have something called sphincter of Oddi dyskinesia. This disorder causes gall bladder symptoms and yet is undetectable when you have all the tests done that are for gall bladder problems. I recommend that everyone who has gall bladder symptoms when all the tests come out negative, look into this possibility.
I wrote under "Guest" on 7/11/08. At that time, I had been given all the tests and they were all negative for gall bladder problems. My doctor was still convinced that it was my gall bladder, so she referred me to a surgeon who was willing to do the surgery, although he didn't believe it was my gall bladder and told me I would have little, if any, improvement. After prayer and talking to friends, I decided to go ahead with the surgery. That was 5 weeks ago today and I have felt better than I have in the last year! This forum helped me to realize that the doctors don't know everything and the tests certainly are not always correct! Also, I knew of two people personally who had all the symptoms and negative tests and they both had their gall bladders removed and it took care of the problem. By the way, the report on my removed gall bladder came back as inflamed. I had constant aching in my right rib cage area as well as alternating diarrhea and constipation. If you feel confident that it's your gall bladder, find someone who will listen ...
like many of you I had all the tests....CT scan of chest, stomach, pelvis; ultra sound of stomach and pelvis; barrium swallow, ultrasound & stress treadmill heart test; HIDA Scan; gastric emptying; multiple EKGs, endoscopy, BRAVO capsule (for GERD), multiple blood tests and meds. And everything kept coming back negative. I lost 16 pounds in 4 months (alot for me because I'm 5'6" and was only 128 pounds to start with) and my hair is falling out.

The first couple months the pain was excruciating.....like someone was stabbing me under the right rib and it would radiate into my right chest and I was sure I was having a heart attack. Then I figured out what not to eat (anything with fat and corn) and it has subsided to a constant, sharp pain.

I am 44, female, fair, family history, but probably NOT fertile and not fat, so I fit the GB profile 4 out of 6 :-) !

It was hard to want to have surgery without a clearcut answer, so I waited months. I've read all your posts and thanked my lucky stars that I have a doctor that was willing to do the surgery based on my symptoms but was leaving the decision to me (which was hard in a different way....I wanted some to tell me what to do!!) My GI also suggested spinchter of ODDI but said taking out my gallbladder first was less risky.

I finally decided to go for it and had the surgery last week. I feel fine from the surgery. My surgeon told me that they found (and remember I was in a morphine stupor at the time) they found "adhesions....my GB was adhered/stuck to my colon....i.e. scar tissue". I have had my follow-up yet and he doesn't talk much, but I need to know more about what this means. There is not much on the internet about it. On one hand it it nice to know they found SOMETHING and I was not crazy!

On the other hand, I don't feel any better!!!!!! I have the exact same pain. I know it has only been a week and someone told me it takes a little while for the liver to take over working for the gallbladder; then again I hear other people saying they feel better right away. I still am not hungry and cannot eat anything different.

I want a cheeseburger!!!!!!

Thought I would share in the hopes that this helps someone else!

Has anyone else NOT felt better after surgery?

Denise
I wrote on 7-28-08 that my doctor said my gall-bladder was bad,but the surgeon did not think so. All because I did'nt have ALL the classic Sympthoms. I was so sick with my stomach for about six years. I thought I was dying of a disease or I was just crazy. Well,my Doctor is the bomb because she knew it was my gall-bladder and I thought the surgeon should know more then her. HI forced him to take it out anyway cause I was just plain desperate. That was four weeks ago and I got the lab results Friday. My gall-Bladder was sick, very diseased, non functioning, chronic collistysitis, just plain nasty. Ifeel like a million bucks,I have not felt this good in years. Kudos to my very smart Doctor.People don't give up,someone will eventually listen, just keep bugging them. NaNa 66
For about the last four months i had been throwing up twice a day (most the time anytime i would eat). the doctors had no clue what was wrong with me. at first they ignored the gallbladder saying i was to young. after running a million other test then decided to look into my gallbladder. they ran test after test and no gallstones or anything and no symptoms except the throwning up and pain in the upper right part of my side and back. finally we asked to speak with a sergeon. he said it was a 50 50 shot it was my gallladder even tho i was young and now results were positive. we opted to have it taken out. it turns out my gallbladder was chroniclly inflammed. after surgery it takes about 2-3 days to get to feeling better but then u start moving around and by the 2nd week ur back to all your normal activities. my scars are small and i havnt been sick since my surgery and my pain has decreased alot. i still have to stay away from taco bell and alot of fatty foods but im gradually working back to them. i have been outta surgery for about 4 weeks now and couldnt be doing any better.
