I had 6 hammertoe implants 13 days ago (middle three toes, both feet) and the tenotomy of both pinkies under TIVA (IV sedation only/ not general anesthesia), with a local block to my toes In surgery almost three hours, in recovery room for 45 minutes. I’ve taken maybe 10 vicodens total in the past 13 days but I take Motrin three times a day.
It’s amazing! My toes are a bit swollen, especially the fourth toe on the right foot. But all in all, the pain isn’t horrible compared to the way my toes felt pre-op that drive me to surgery. My toes constantly had a dull ache pre-op. The pain now is a bit more ‘electric/nerve type’ but maybe rates a 1or 2 on the pain scale. I’m an RN and am due back in four weeks and I feel that is a decent amount of time (6 weeks off total). The first week post-in, I was very good about elevating ‘toes to the nose’ height and keeping my toes iced. Since then, I’ve been overdoing it...vacuuming and ironing when my husband is at work and doing a bit much considering it hasn’t been 2 weeks, but 80% of the time, I’ve kept my post-op shoes on. (I e washed the shoes already because I feel they get dirty from being on the floor).
I know I sound nasty, but the previous response was to ‘call an ombudsman’ due to your ER experience so I will be blunt!
Why did u choose to go to the ER demanding attention instead of going home, elevating your foot and taking Motrin??? Seriously, you acted like THAT in an ER because your pinky toe hurt? Your Charlie horse was most likely due to you not taking your potassium theorning of surgery- which you could have- or due to succinylcholine given intravenously if u had general anesthesia, which, btw, wears off and the doctors wouldn’t do anything for that anyway.
Let me guess? You don’t work, do you? Because you sound like a high maintenance non worker. If you are in healthcare as you say and are so proud that You know what ketorolac (toradol) is, then u know it’s simply IV Motrin and is usually given Intravenously when patients can’t yet swallow a pill postop. So WTF? You got Dilaudid?? For pinky toe pain?? Dilaudid also comes in a 2 mg pill dose. You sound like a ER nurses nightmare!
And by NOT going to your follow up app’. which (of course is NOT any fault of yours!), the doctors office IS within its rights to charge a no show fee!! You could have UBER’ed or called a taxi!
