Having 2 times of period in a month at the age of 18?

Hi, my girlfriend told she's currently having her period(brown in colour and quite little) since yesterday. 2 weeks ago she just had her period. May I know what caused the problem? Could it be stress because she's having her public exam now until December. Thank you in adv.
