Hi, I'm a 15 year old female and I sometimes get this feeling like my heart is vibrating and I feel a weird feeling in my chest. I have trouble breathing whenever this happens, and I have an urge to cough. These "episodes" last for only a few seconds and then I'm back to normal. I don't know what this is or what it means. I've already been diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) at 11 years old. I had been having SVT symptoms since a very young age and found out at 11 years old. I currently still have it. I don't know how or why I got SVT because I don't drink or smoke or do any drugs. I used to drink caffeinated drinks (coke, Pepsi, coffee) but not anymore. So, I really have no idea what this stuff is?
Wow mine started after I took penicillin for an abscess tooth. Doc said if I stopped taking it for 10 days and it was still happening then it wasn't an allergy to the penicillin. Months later still having them.
I am 57 and have had this since 21. I also sometimes feel very fast heartbeat but it stops when i cough. Being older, I have had many tests done including a heart characterization. Nothing was ever found to be wrong with my heart. I do suffer from anxiety and take a med for that. I have noticed irregular beats mostly when tired, not enough sleep, stressed, worried, after drinking alcohol, to much caffeine. My one doctor put it correct. He said "we are all wired differently" My advise to anyone having palpitations or fast beats is remain calm. Cough as soon as you start to feel it. You can also bear down while holding your breath and contract your stomach. These have all worked for me. I have accepted the fact that I will have these palpitations forever. Another tip is keep a healthy weight. I go up and down and definitely get more palpitations with weight on. Hope this helps even one person.
Has anyone figured out why your heart is (speeding up)
I am an otherwise healthy teenager and have these symptoms, I have been diagnosed with Supra Ventricular Tachycardia. Don't just assume it's stress because mine is not due to stress, it's a legitimate heart condition which has some similar symptoms to anxiety but it should not be dismissed as this because it can be serious. I have been told that one way to stop palpitations like you mentioned is to drink cold water as this stimulates the vegas nerve. Hopefully this will be of help to someone if they are worried about it and don't have prescriptions for anything further. I recommend going to see a doctor and wearing an ECG for a week so that something can be picked up. If you are experiencing shortness of breath, dizziness, chest pains or are blacking out then you really should seek medical attention.
Hey,
Your heart isn't stopping, it sounds like a ventricular ectopic beat to me. I suffer these all the time and they feel horrible but are in fact completely harmless It's caused by excess adrenaline and anxiety all mixed together. It doesn't harm your heart and it doesn't stop.
The majority of people suffer these but most simply don't notice. It's only because you are in tune with your feelings that you notice when they happen and that exacerbates it too.

This happens to me too and I suffer from anxiety also.... I get scared too when it happens I have to cough so my heart beat can stop racing
I get those flutters and coughing feeling too and my doctor says it is probably my hiatus hernia sliding up and bumping into my heart and lung.
Well nothing shows up in ecg as most of you mentioned and the gp says it wouldn't unless the time of ecg and the fluttering clashes, so here i am facing the symptoms and cant help my self out of it tomrrow is going to be my brod birthday so i am going to have lots of beer with the theory the moment it will hit you you will surely die thats fate and all the thoeries adds up to it so stay precured and healthy do your best rest leave things on destiny coz ppl die sometimes for no reason and ppl like us have got a major reason so be it. Smile and live happily if you will stress surely its going to get worst
I have felt the same thing my heart flutters and I have to cough too, then it goes away. It's scary when it's happening and I don't know what it it's either.
Hi I have the same thing. It happens off and on where I get bad palpitations, shortness of breath along with a headache. I Am a 32 year old female and it started when I was about 25. I have had several trips to the doctor and er for this and they say it's nothing. I wonder why I haven't been diagnosed with panic. How does the medication work for you?
Yes that helps a lot. I Am 32 now and I have had palpitations since I was about 25 and it scares me because it feels like I Am dying and it's hard because I'm a single mom and my kids need me i have been to the er and doctor several times. Does the anxiety med work for you?
