It's amazing when you Google these symptoms how many other people experience the same thing yet there is no definite diagnosis. Obviously having these symptoms are scary. It's not uncommon for people to feel that they are going to die. If you are just sitting around perhaps find a near by bible and read the scripture there in. A lot of people find comfort from the text there in. Especially if you think you are dying... you may want to

I am a healthy 26 year old female and it sounds like what you are describing is also what I have. Since I was about 17, I would get these feelings of palpitations. It took about a year or 2 to finally catch it and it was premature atrium contractions. This is very normal for everyone but some people can feel it more than others or it occurs more frequently. It tends to happen more often if I am sleep deprived. Coughing is a main way to stop the fluttering. Sometimes it will flutter once or twice and sometimes it can go on for minutes, but the cough tends to help. I hope this helps. I went to the dr multiple times, but it always seemed to stop within a few minutes and could never catch. Finally, we caught it and thankfully, it was no biggie. And just to explain the symptoms: (and it varies) the mild is just a slight flutter that makes me want to cough, the more severe ( typically sleep deprived) will be my heart starts slowing down and then for a split second, it stops and I feel a tingling in my hands and toes and then my heart pounds hard and starts racing. Don't be worried but being that it is your heart, always take it as something serious. My dad does it too and the cough stops it for him too. Good luck.

I'm going to the cardiologist for a consult next week for this. For me, it only happens periodically. Did you ever find out what it is?

i had that too and the doctor recommended for me to call an electrophysiologist to perform a radio frequency ablation (very minor procedure).. this was to cure SVT (supra ventricular tachycardia) it makes you feel out of control like you can't breath and then a common short term cure is to cough. but this ablation uses catheters that they guide through your arteries and it has a very high success rate.
Good luck!

I have it , they happen all the time , been to the doctor's office, i am now on beta blockers they help. they doctors don't know why it happens and they are just simply putting a band aid on it. I think it is a real bad low lying problem that will only get worse over time if real treatment is none done for it.

OMG, I'm 27 and I thought I was going to die, so thanks for letting me know that this is not deadly. I also had the racing heart beat, short breath, and what feels like a lump in my throat, yesterday and today. I went to the hospital yesterday and they said that I had heart palpitation but everything is fine. Today I had the same thing, but I realized the common denominator is some Indian food that I ordered. what? I ate the leftovers today and felt the same thing. So I thought the food must be related so I did some of my own research and my symptoms matched symptoms from consuming food that have high MSG (exotoxins) in them. Then I started to freak out because I realized I ate more of this poison today, and even if I may have cheated death yesterday, I was going to die today for sure (I know, a little over-dramatic, but it really felt like I was dying). Then I read your post and I feel better now. Thanks.

Hello!  I am 34 and also suffer from these flutters...I have been keeping track of mine and I have noticed that get them off and on all the time for a second or two here or there, but I have noticed that sometimes they are off and on for a day or two...I started keeping track of these times, and it is just about a week before my period.  I did some more research and found that if your hormones are off balance that these "flutters" will happen more before your period, because at that time your hormones are all out of whack anyway.  I have had these flutters since I was a teenager...I am starting to think they are genetic, my mom gets them, my sister, I have a few aunts that have them as well.  I was on a monitor and everything after the birth of my first son, and the cardiologist said it happens.  He also told me that caffeine will make them worse and more frequent and chocolate is really bad.  I did do the vitamins for a while and that seemed to help, but I always forget to take them...I guess I should start doing that again.  Because I have been having them since yesterday, but then again it is almost that time of the month.  I am also a huge worrier, and kinda a hypochondriac as well, so that doesn't help.  I have noticed that listening to relaxation tapes has helped as well.  Good luck to everyone...
