I am 45 and justify my heavy bleeding, on and off periods days apart and blood clots to probably going through menopause. Its real scarey when you have your period for 16 days straight with heavy bleeding and clots then it stops and starts 3 days later for 1 day with heavy bleeding and clots then stops for 2 days and then again the bleeding and clots....sometimes only 1 day sometimes longer. My doctor referred me to a gynacolagist and when I get in I will go back on this forum to let everyone know the outcome for anyone else that is suffering from the same thing.

I would love to have kids o day...thing is I started my menstrual when I was 8 my gyn told me that was abnormal and started given me bcontrol for pain and heavy bleeding It worked for a while that was 2 years ago now and my cycles only lasted 3days ...out of no where I have a normal cycle for a week then slight spotting...after my shower I lay down to take a nap and It feels as if my water broke (really never exp. that) but I check and its loads of huge blood clots...So idk I pretty scared about my Dr. appt every woman ahead of me in my family has have to have hysterectomy's...Pray for me :(

I have problems like that too. Only it's always heavy and there's always clots, it's been that way since my very first period when I was 11, I am almost 27 now. I can't stand it, there's been times when I've had to sit on the toilet for close to an hour because it was just flowing right out of me like a trickling faucet. I use Assurance Briefs and I still sometimes have to change it quite often. It wouldn't be so bad but it's also very irregular, sometimes I won't have a period for two-three months, others I'll have it almost non stop for a couple weeks to a couple months with the occasional free day or two, sometimes a few days but then it starts right back up.
It's very frustrating especially in the summer because I love to swim but I'm always nervous to get in the water. Also I have to constantly be wearing the briefs because I never know when it will start up again, one minute I'll be fine and the next I'll feel a clot or something. I've tried to go to doctors but no one will do anything, I want to get everything removed (I'm VERY sure about that by the way, nothing to do with this) but not until I know what's causing it.

To be completely honest, it's probably PCOS related for 70-80 percent of the women that have posted. PCOS causes the endometrial lining to become thick (mostly because of our lack of ovulation and progesterone levels not being right) and so you'll bleed for a very long time. I've been going on 3 weeks. I've been through this before. The only time I had an okay period was when I was on the fertility drugs. I'm tempted to ask for them just to make my periods normal again. I'm hoping my doc okays it cause I'm losing my freaking mind.

I too experience the same thing. I began my research as a student of holistic medicine. When the heavy bleeding starts begin taking VItamin K...if your not on blood thinners....than take as much as you can until you notice the bleeding slowing down. Also drink lots and lots of lemon water or if you can handle it organic apple cider vinegar in your water. Also add Desiccated Liver tablets and take 6 supplements to begin with until you notice a difference and than return to the normal dosage. More than likely its an hormonal issue and possibly fibroids..Begin to include zinc and selenium supplements into your diet and above all change your diet..No diary products and No Sugar...

All that I have read on this post has been my experience. My doctor just wanted to prescribe birth control pills and or perform a hysterectomy. I got tired of the side-effects of the birth control pills and did not want a hysterectomy. I began, as a student of holistic medicine, began to look at nutrition to help with this issue. It is a hormonal issue and also a times a fibroid and PCOS condition. In the stages of heavy bleeding I took Vitamin K supplement that had Vitamin D in it in large dosages until the bleeding began to subside. I also drank large amounts of either lemon juice and or organic apple cider vinegear. I began to eliminate all diary and sugar products from my diet and white flour products. I began to daily take desiccated liver supplements in double the dosage until the bleeding subsided and than returned to the regularly recommended dosage. I also add Optimized Garlic Supplements from Life Extension along with Echnicea which is recommened by Dr. Agatha Thrash. The doctor I studied natural medicine with. All of it is about nutrition ladies....You can reduce the bleeding and begin to control the level of heaviness...Find a functional nutritionist in your area and or online...There is help.

I have had periods like this and I ended up going to three obgyns and all of them didnt do anything for me. I have tried several different doses of BC and it regulated my periods but they were extremely heavy still. It was hard to walk due to the clotting. I went off the pill and had beautifully light and regular periods for four months then stopped. I have yet to find something that helps.
