Hello ladies, I've had regular periods for 25 years. Now suddenly over the last 12 weeks I have been bleeding every day and sometime extremely heavy, changing tampons every 10 minutes due to flooding and huge blood clots. The clots have been getting bigger and more regular the last 4 days. I'm going to see a specialist on Friday as this is not normal for my body. I have had blood taken and every result including hormones is normal. I used to be very active but I'm now putting on weight and becoming very introverted. I will let you know how the specialist goes. Thanks Alison.

Thank you for sharing, I too have lived with very heavy bleeding and all the inconveniences it brings!!! Its NOT in our heads, our panties, pants , pajamas, sheets, towels show the stains despite the boxes and boxes of tampons and pads purchased. The clots are kind of scary because no one ever told us about those....but we keep it to ourselves and wonder what is wrong ?why is the uterine lining building up so thick?, When I calm down and think ....if these large clots were in me well ....its better they are coming out and not staying inside!!! But is sure is an inconvenience!!!!

I'm with ya girl. I got my period late to begin with at 17, and the first few were very light though irregular, but then about my third or fourth time, I started having the same heavy bleeding and clotting, changing pads and tampons every half hour. I wasn't terribly worried for the first week, just like, oh whatever, it'll go away eventually, but then the second week went by, the first month, and then the second and third. Definitely not normal, so just before my eighteenth, talked to my mom and got an appt. with an obgyn reccomended by my gen prct. When I went and told them what was going on, they brushed it off as "shut-up and have some birth control". I was given a whole bunch of bs reasons like "your an athlete", "you just started", and blah blah blah. But anyway, the birth control evened it out a bit and my periods went to the cycle of the pills. Finally, once the perscription ran out, my period stopped altogether for almost a year now. On Monday, however, I did wake-up to the nasty surprise of "oh hey I'm back!" It's been pretty heavy since then with surprisingly few clots (they're there, just not as big as last time or as frequent.....yet). I am however slightly concerned with the fact that I'm feeling kinda tired and my gums are somewhat pale though not tacky. Could be cause I have been sick with the flu the last few days, but oh well whatever we shall see what happens....sigh

I have Hashimotos. About a year after my diagnosis I started having heavy periods similar to what you describe. I went to see a Functional Medicine practitioner. My DHEA saliva was high and I had high blood pressure. He put me on a sugar free diet. After 2 months on the diet, my period is normal, my hair stopped falling out, and Ive lost 18 lbs. Turns out I am pre diabetic and likely also have PCOS. Guess what? Diet fixed it all. BP back to normal.

I am 18 years old. I have dealt with this ever since I first got a period. My cramps aren't so bad once I take medicine, but I still bleed heavily and have huge clots. I wear 4 overnight extra flow maxi pads and I bleed through them in one hour, sometimes thirty minutes. My mom would always have to check me out of school because I would ruin my clothes. Here I am 18 years old, no longer a child and about to go to college and I am still going through this. I dont understand why this is happening to me. I just want a normal period.

I've been getting my period for three years now I'm 15 years old I usually get my period every other month and I was checked out all good but two days ago I started my period and I have had very large clots the size of almost a dollar bill and I'm worried but I don't know if I should tell someone I keep to myself because it's sort of an awkward conversation if it's nothing to worry about what should I do

I went to the doctor literaly a week ago because of this. She graduated with a masters degree in Harvard Medicine and I completely trust her.
Mine prescribed 4 birth control pills (NOT the colored ones at the bottom! Dont eat those) every 6 hours, along with one nausea preventing pill every time I took the birth control. It means basically your period lining is very wobbly and the blood will just gush out FOREVER unless you stop it. You need estrogen to fix the lining and make it smooth again. Once the bleeding stops, take 4 pills for 4 days, 3 pills for 3, 2 pills for 2, and then one pill a day for three months. IT makes it steady enough to go back to your normal period cycle. I'm in the process of taking 4 pills a day, and the nausea has been so bad I had to skip all of my classes this week. No sports or sudden activities for about 2 weeks! I've thrown up a lot on the first few days, and I fainted once or twice from loss of blood. My blood count has dropped to around 9.5 \(13-14 is the regular amount) so drink plenty of water! Meat like fish are the best foods to eat, as well as leafy greens like spinach. Try to cut down on junk food, although you probably won't have much of an appetite after yous tart the medication. It's a long, grueling process, but if you dont fix this problem it can stay wiht you for the rest of your life

I also have sever periods. It's not the blood loss that makes you weak though. There are unfortunate other factors involved. I have to leave work or school on the 2nd and occasionally 3rd day of my period and my period can last up to 7 days although the full bleeding is only about 2-3. I haven't found a solution or even something to help it yet. I tried birth control and that did lighten the bleeding but not the pain, running to the bathroom and not being able to function like a human being. The more I look into it the more I see it's not so rare but I don't see many things that work for people who have it so severe. And people don't understand and can't understand unless they have it themselves is what I see or unless they see you drenched in sweat then they finally believe you.

Hi I have the same issues as you have. I even git confined to a hospital due to excessive blood clots and bleeding during my menstruation also due to PCOS. My gyne told me that taking pills will be a big help she gave me a specific one that's Dianne birth control pills and also taking metformin to lose weight. She also got me a transV ultrasound and check my cyst. She said regular exercise to lose weight is one of the major key to atleast prevent this symptoms and also proper diet also be a big help in our condition..

VITAMIN K PEOPLE! It is a natural blood coagulant. Instead of paying for pricey supplements that may have added substancs or incorrect labeling (FDA doesn't regulate supplements), MAKE COLLARD GREEN SOUPS! 1 serving cooked has about 6X the daily suggested intake...which, if you have prolonged or heavy periods, is about CINICAL-GRADE STRENGTH. Most of the vitamins will be in the broth so make it tasty. Try eating a bowl 1X a day until your period gets a more normal 1X cycle, then I suggest eating the week before you expect it.

This advice is from a 28 year old woman with PCOS and heavy periods her whole life, who had become incredibly frequent with cycles also. Once my diet changed I had 2 months of normal periods with minimal pain! :)
At first I was given a coagalent to take 2X a day, 10 days... But it worked briefly, so I created a diet.

Best of luck to you all!
