Thank you for sharing, I too have lived with very heavy bleeding and all the inconveniences it brings!!! Its NOT in our heads, our panties, pants , pajamas, sheets, towels show the stains despite the boxes and boxes of tampons and pads purchased. The clots are kind of scary because no one ever told us about those....but we keep it to ourselves and wonder what is wrong ?why is the uterine lining building up so thick?, When I calm down and think ....if these large clots were in me well ....its better they are coming out and not staying inside!!! But is sure is an inconvenience!!!!

I'm with ya girl. I got my period late to begin with at 17, and the first few were very light though irregular, but then about my third or fourth time, I started having the same heavy bleeding and clotting, changing pads and tampons every half hour. I wasn't terribly worried for the first week, just like, oh whatever, it'll go away eventually, but then the second week went by, the first month, and then the second and third. Definitely not normal, so just before my eighteenth, talked to my mom and got an appt. with an obgyn reccomended by my gen prct. When I went and told them what was going on, they brushed it off as "shut-up and have some birth control". I was given a whole bunch of bs reasons like "your an athlete", "you just started", and blah blah blah. But anyway, the birth control evened it out a bit and my periods went to the cycle of the pills. Finally, once the perscription ran out, my period stopped altogether for almost a year now. On Monday, however, I did wake-up to the nasty surprise of "oh hey I'm back!" It's been pretty heavy since then with surprisingly few clots (they're there, just not as big as last time or as frequent.....yet). I am however slightly concerned with the fact that I'm feeling kinda tired and my gums are somewhat pale though not tacky. Could be cause I have been sick with the flu the last few days, but oh well whatever we shall see what happens....sigh

Mine prescribed 4 birth control pills (NOT the colored ones at the bottom! Dont eat those) every 6 hours, along with one nausea preventing pill every time I took the birth control. It means basically your period lining is very wobbly and the blood will just gush out FOREVER unless you stop it. You need estrogen to fix the lining and make it smooth again. Once the bleeding stops, take 4 pills for 4 days, 3 pills for 3, 2 pills for 2, and then one pill a day for three months. IT makes it steady enough to go back to your normal period cycle. I'm in the process of taking 4 pills a day, and the nausea has been so bad I had to skip all of my classes this week. No sports or sudden activities for about 2 weeks! I've thrown up a lot on the first few days, and I fainted once or twice from loss of blood. My blood count has dropped to around 9.5 \(13-14 is the regular amount) so drink plenty of water! Meat like fish are the best foods to eat, as well as leafy greens like spinach. Try to cut down on junk food, although you probably won't have much of an appetite after yous tart the medication. It's a long, grueling process, but if you dont fix this problem it can stay wiht you for the rest of your life

This advice is from a 28 year old woman with PCOS and heavy periods her whole life, who had become incredibly frequent with cycles also. Once my diet changed I had 2 months of normal periods with minimal pain! :)
At first I was given a coagalent to take 2X a day, 10 days... But it worked briefly, so I created a diet.
Best of luck to you all!
