I've had this since I'm a young . I only get it when I'm forced to use anything other than Kleenex on my nose when it's running.
I tried Lotrimen which is usually for athletes foot. It was like a miracle. After 1 day, swelling goes and the sore goes away quickly.
IDK why this word so well, but it does. I hope this helps someone.

I noticed at work on Saturday night that the edge of my nostril was hurting really bad. It felt like it was running, and the entire tip of my nose was swollen and turned bright red! The next morning, it looked like a few tiny blisters had popped, and the sore itself got bigger (so embarrassing!) Now, it is a little sore (3 days later), but it looks like a huge-ass scab, and it is gross looking! I wait tables and tend bar in a very busy restaurant, and don't want to gross people out, but I can't afford to miss work either! This is the 2nd year in a row that this has happened too me and in the very same spot. What causes this and how can I make it go away? I too just got over a horrible cold a couple of weeks ago, and have felt fine until this!!! Is there a "cover-up" I could buy to make it less noticeable? Help me out here ladies, lol!

While it could very well be herpes, mrsa, staph or some other virus... it could also be from your tissues! It took me months to figure out what was causing my nose sores - TISSUES WITH LOTION. I don't know what they are putting in those tissues with lotion, but they were causing my nose to break out inside every other day with crusty, cracky, weepy, hurty, open sores. As soon as I stopped using them, they cleared up.

I take Lysine tablets too. Prescription ointment of acyclovir and tablets. Mine get out of hand & start running as well.
