I still have a large hematoma on hip. It's been drained twice and I've had it over six months. After draining, it just comes back.

I fell and had a huge hematoma on my left upper leg. It looked like a softball. Painful, embarassing. My primary doctor said it would take a long time to go down. After it hadn't gone down more than two months later, I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he drained it with a syringe. The blood almost filled one of those curved plastic containers they give you in the hospital to brush your teeth. He drained it two more times, then referred me to another doctor to use ultrasound to locate where to insert for suction. By then it had become too viscous and very little could be drained. I still have two unsightly bulges just below my bathing suit. It doesn't hurt anymore, but I am embarrassed by it. That injury was 16 mos. ago. Now I've bruised my shin and I'm afraid it's doing the same thing. Are some people just prone to develop pockets where the body forms a sealed pocket of blood?

I have the same issue. except it's been 12 years. No pain, but it doesn't look good and i'm self conscious about it. I think I'm going to look into a plastic surgeon.

I had a serious fall 2 months ago and have a hematoma the size of 1/2 an orange at the top of my thigh my doctor said it will go away eventually. In the mean while the surrounding area is very tender and I have discomfort sitting and sleeping. The lump is unsightly when I am wearing tight fitting clothing. At the time of the injury I had bruising from the top of my thigh to the back of my knee all shades of purple the bruising took 2 weeks to come out completely. I was told that if I had it drained there is a risk of infection.

I was wondering if you had any luck with your hematoma ? I only read this post tonight and what you have described is exactly what I have , with one difference - my auto accident was in 1991. Fractured pelvis causing hematoma. Its big and ugly but hasn't really caused me any pain until now. Haven't been to a doctor yet but now it is getting harder to sleep so I will go tomorrow. But was curious if you had received a solution ? Thanks
