I'm still doing great, very little pain. In fact, I dropped my codeine dose to one at my last dosing. I may need to increase it, but I don't think so. All systems working, too ... certainly I'm not constipated! Quite the opposite. Lots of fiber and laxatives are doing the trick. Minimal pain on first BM, esp. given that it is so loose. I am really no more uncomfortable than I have been when my 'roids were really inflamed. So I guess I'm proof that this procedure doesn't have to always be hell on earth ... it has certainly, so far anyway, not been bad at all. And that was my memory of 22 years ago too. I had worse post-childbirth memories than I had 'roidectomy memories.
Yea, SecondTimeAround, I am so glad to hear things are going well for you! I'm glad my suggestions came in handy, and I really agree about the doctor. A lot of those horror stories had to do with poor procedures and awful complications. I'm so glad we were lucky enough to get some of the best care and thus recover trouble free. There still may be some uncomfortable moments in your future, but with the right prep you will get thru them, and it sounds like you are doing just wonderful. I am relieved on your behalf and very happy for you.
I was prescribed 10mg of Valium to take every 6 hours as needed and got 20 pills of them. I took them all but that was because I believed they really did help relax the muscle, as I had read that somewhere. But what you said makes sense too, that if you are relaxed, your body will be relaxed, and either way, that's what I needed it to be.
But, I never got "high" or felt woozy or anything. In fact I was quite alert until I starting taking Benedryl for that slight rash I developed. It's the Benedryl that kinda made me sleepy. Seemed like everything I was taking had the potential for a rash, so I kept taking them all along with the Benedryl until I was ready to taper off. Been completely med free since Monday and I'm no more uncomfortable than I was before the surgery. A month from now I should be a new woman completely. Six weeks from now, you will be too!
Again, I am happy for both of us. Finally, two stories in a row that turned out good. God bless you, SecondTimeAround. I will remember you all the days of my life. We may check in together a time or two in the future, but for the most part, I think our posts are done.
Let this be an encouragement to all who are considering this procedure: get yourself a good doctor! And some pain meds. Chances are, you, too, will be just as fine as we are.

Thought I would add a postscript to my recovery chronicle as stated above ... I am 8 days out and still doing better than I expected. I actually tried to wean off the codeine as early as last weekend (just relying on Advil) but decided that was a little premature. I'm back on one codeine 2-3 times a day, every 6 hours, plus a couple of Advil at the same time. I'm passing stool once a day and each day it gets a little less painful, although certainly not pleasant. I'm staying on the codeine because I get "crampy" when I don't ... kind of like menstrual cramps. I'm using a heating pad, too. I have walked a mile and a half the past 5 days, except one day. No problems sitting, either. Still doing a couple of bath soaks a day, esp. after morning BM. Also still taking 3 Colace and 1 T Metamucil daily. Talked to my doc's office today and they said two weeks is pretty normal recovery time before things really start to feel better. I am tired and can "hit the wall" somewhat unexpectedly.
Best of luck to all of you.
