Sorry man there is no PILL to get rid of Hems. You can try ice on the outside hem just wrap it in cling wrap/food wrap and stick it on the sucker for 15-20mins 3 times a day this will help quite a lot to reduce it. Now to your diet you'll need to put quite a lot of fibre back into your diet, the best way to do this is not with tablets!!

Go to your HEALTH FOOD SHOP and ask for something like "Fibre Cleanse" this stuff contains all the ingredients to get you going again (Psyllium Husk, Carob Powder, Linseed Meal, Oat Meal, Slippery Elm Bark Powder) and drink plenty of water. Stop doing squats as this puts a lot of pressure on the same area. SO you might have to change your weight routine a fair bit to stop getting these i heard that acupuncture is also a good method of dealing wit hems as well.

GOOD LUCK!!

Same thing happened to me too. Do not want to stop werights but equally they are causing a problem. It is caused by intra-abdominal pressure and I have a feeling I am making them worse bu not coordinating my breathing. I tend to hold my breath when i lift, which I am beginning to discover, may be a bad move...Has anyone tried to adapt breathing during heavy lifts to deal with this? Does it work...... I presume I should be exhaling when i take the strain of the weight...

I had the same symptoms.
I use Anusol cream. Doc advised to lose weight, and I did. Now, haemorroids are less frequent, and when they do appear, they itch very bad - but they don't hurt so much as before. The more belly I lose, the more it goes away.

I shower with just warm water (and no soap) after every bowel movement. Doc said that Hemorroids produce a mucus as well, and that mucus is an irritant. Sometimes, it wakes me in the middle of the night, when a mucus blob lands on a haemorroid. Then, I just do my duty with the finger, and stimulate whatever nerves (carefully) to either clean out any stray blobs of urea which might be touching haemorroids, or to stimulate a bowel movement. I always try to clean out any leftover smears of $hit, cos otherwise, they harden and scratch against hemorroids.

If I do that, I can have a normal day. Meanwhile, I walk a few km every day on the treadmill to lose weight, drinking lots of water, and i don't skip meals, which might cause slower movements.
Hope this helps someone else.

When things got bad, Doc gave me steroid cream, but it was too strong. I woke up in middle of night, found myself really scratching badly to the point of blood. It hurt so much, and it caused a "haemotoma" - a blood blister, which could have been drained by a doctor if I had gone that day, but blood hardens in the blister, and then it caused incredible pain - I couldn't sit down and i had to take a few days off work. - So, don't let that happen to you.

I'm in a similar position. What other exercises have you found that don't cause your hemorrhoids to flare up?

Yes - just got my first about a week ago.. Mine was triggered by both sex and weight training at the same time:) I had my girlfriend sitting on top of me, facing me.. I then stood up (picking her up) with me.. The next morning I was surprised to find while in the shower.. However, unlike many, I have zero pain. I appreciate the information for home treatment as I'm a bit embarrassed to see the doctor just yet.

I've gotten my 3rd one in the last 3 months from lifting. It's to the point where I know I've gotten one after I've done something. If you got the doctor you can get a prescription cream that keeps everything moist and conditioned if you will and has a steroid in it to help heal. Taking a fiber pill, eating fibrous foods, and most importantly taking a stool softener are the best ways to deal with it. The way to avoid it is proper breathing throughout your entire workout. It's so incredibly important because they you're releasing that excess pressure in your body. This is coming from someone with 2 hernias and a problem with hemmroids. Lastly a common way to get them is squats. DON'T DO THEM. They're bad for your spine and can cause hemmroids. Put one leg up on the bench, hold 2 free weights and bend the leg on the ground like you're doing a squat. Works just as well but your center of gravity is now in a better place. Also use baby wipes if you have to go the bathroom and that will make it feel nice. The aloe and moisture in them is much better than a dry abrasive piece of TP. Hope this all helps.

Because IRC for hemorrhoids only works on internal hemorrhoids up to stage III of prolapse. It does not work at all on external hemorrhoids.!

I began weight training 3 weeks ago. I am in my mid 40's and never had hemorrhoids. But I got hemorrhoids a couple of days later and there is no doubt it's related to the weight training, especially the seated leg presses I believe.

I stopped going to the gym and after 2 weeks having time off from the gym, the hemorrhoids have shrunk and feel a lot better.

I am worried to start training again, it's a real trategy, I wanted to get strong and fit, began doing weights, rowing, cycling, and I get hemorrhoids was my reward for trying to do the right thing. Now I am back to being a coach potato. I will do anything to avoid hemorrhoids, so now it looks like I will die earlier than need be because I am unable to keep training.

Life sucks! :-(

Well guys i'm right here with ya. Im 32 and have been working out for about 5 years now. I was doing heavy squats the other day felt a little odd down there after doing them and what do you know the next day a hemorrhoid. Right now i'm thinking like the above poster and wondering if squats are worth it or not. lol Sounds like it might go away over time I hope. The bad thing is i'm leaving for Alaska to go snow boarding in 3 days. This is going to suck!

Hey, I've been weight lifting for a long time. I avoided doing squats and leg presses b/c I know that triggered Hemmroids. I've had minor ones here and there over the years and last saturday I had a great chest workout, with forced reps and drop sets and the next morning I had a hemmroid. It sucks, I haven't gone to the gym since..and I miss it alot. I thought it was going away yesterday, then my girlfriend and I had sex last night and it's back to where it was! it's sooo aggervating!

I take alot of Fiber, There's a fiber supplement from Species Nutrition called Fiberlyze. I drink 2 servings twice daily. I heard vitamin B-6 is helpful, I have just started taking P-S-P, its super enhanced version of B-6. It's $10 for the Vitamin Shoppe. I HAD to give up leg training, but I have defenitly noticed good results from HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) I like to use the Eliptical machine. It's great for burning fat and it also builds muscle. HIIT is great, I start with a warm up for 5 minutes then for 1 minute I sprint, then slow for 30 seconds, I do that for 20 minutes and I have seen great results in muscle mass and lines and definition in my quads.

I also have come down with 2 external hemorrhoids from lifting. I believe the exact exercise was tricep pulldowns with my back supported. What a stupid exercise to get hurt on!

Its been about 4 weeks and I'm on day 6 of analpram. I haven't lifted in over a week and was going very light before that. The suckers haven't shrank even a little. I think I need to call the doctor back.

I absolutely do not want to stop squatting or deadlifting. There are NO substitutes for these exercises in terms of building mass and muscle, period. This really sucks.

Also, I'm reading conflicting things about breathing. Medhi at stronglifts says that you can do the valsalva maneuver and 'blow you breath at your closed glottis, not towards your anus' and that will make things OK (try doing that for a second, thats just silly). Other sites say you MUST exhale during the concentric part of a lift. And even more conflicting, in "Starting Strength, 2nd Edition", Mark Rippetoe says that you need to do the valsalva maneuver during heavy lifts as well. I trust him on this, and I am not worried about stroke or aneurysm or anything rare and crazy like that...but I am worried that it will cause hemorrhoids.

I'm really frustrated and at a loss right now. Weightlifting is all I looked forward to every day and now I can't do it :'(

Hello everyone. I am 46 years of age, never had any Hemorrhoids issue in my entire life.  But one day I started the gym.  I started light weights and on my third day I did seated leg press machine.  The following morning at 3am I woke up with massive burning in my anus.  Went to doctor and was told I have Hemorrhoids. So it's definately possible to get Hemorrhoids from weight training, but it may not be the direct cause, but it triggers and activated an underlining weakeness in that area, probably due to lack of nutrients for many years.

It's really sad for me, because I was really exited about starting weight training, but I can no longer do it because it aggravates the Hemorrhoids.

hello there ,

this hemorrhoids are sooo painfull . Ive had them for 3 weeks now . Worst part is it came when i was on vacation and then it went away  and all of a sudden its come back again . i cant bare the pain and it pains the most at night , and i loose my sleep . Ive been training hard to enter a bodybuilding competition and ive been doing some really intense squats and leg presses and im very sure it is because of this i am suffering . Doctor has told me to stay away from the gym for 2 weeks :( . I use to squat and do presses untill i felt faint , i needed huge and well defined legs and focused a lot of my workouts .  a heavy price to pay for a dedicated workout :(

I have piles for years but recently it got worst when I started lifting heavier weight. I don't experience so much pain but rather a lot of bleeding whenever I pooh.  I've ignored the regular bleeding as I enjoy going to the gym and doing weigth training. However, recently, i been feeling fatigue and it just got worst til I see my GP. After doing blood analysis, I was found to be anemic due to the regular bleeding of the anal. The report also show iron deficiency. And without Iron, the protein will not be absorbed by the body. So this mean you cant build any muscle if you have regular bleeding. I hope to share my experience so that you will not waste your time in gym if you have the same problem as me.
