I just came back from a infectious disease doctor as I had been told for the last 11 years that I was having recurring shingles outbreaks. Initial outbreak was sever back in 2000. Since then I have had recurring outbreaks ever 6 months to year. The latest outbreak was just this past Saturday. The doctor I saw said it was another breakout of the shingle and that I should see and infectious disease doctor as I shouldn't be having this many outbreaks. Well the Infectious Disease doctor now tells me that I was misdiagnosed by 3 different doctors and that I actually herpes whitlow on my inner thigh, which is uncommon. Tells me to have a swab test the nest time I have a breakout, which by the way, no doctor has ever done. Makes you wonder about these doctors and what you should believe!!

I hope I can find someone who may have similar symptoms to me. So far I have not been successful. I have breakouts all over my face, and nose. It is the worst. You cannot hide your face at all :/. I get multiple breakouts every month. I have taken acyclovir, valtrex, abreva, etc. to no avail. Also changed my diet and take supplements. Trieds Forces of nature, which sort of helps, but only if you apply it immediatly. The best thing I've found so far is raw aloe. If you cut a piece of aloe and use the inner filet, to can rub it or tape it on overnight. It really helps me. It's like the aloe absorbs into your ski overnight and it visibly helps it. I'd love some advice here :/ I'm at a dead end.

I get a rash on my thighs about once a year but it is not painful or oozing. I do have HSV-1 Genital and it is nothing like those outbreaks. I went to the doctor and he said the rash on my leg is related to herpes and the heat. Still kinda perplexes me though and I am also looking for answers.

It is very sad to me that most doctors today still seem to be in the dark about herpes. I was diagnosed (via swab) with genital herpes 18 years ago, for many years I educated myself on everything I could find on the subject. So about 5 years ago, I finally decided to talk to my new Dr because some things didn't make sense to me. My doctor gave me a blood test, did some additional private research and gave me the good news. The end result? I was given HSV1 via oral sex, but since the environment in the genitalia is not ideal for HSV1, my body developed an antibody (seroconversion) to the virus and I live without outbreak and without risk of passing it along to anyone else.

If you have HSV1 already and contract HSV2, your symptoms will not be as severe as someone who has only contracted HSV2. This is because HSV1 is not as strong of a virus and your body more than likely built up enough antibodies to fight it off- and your body will use those antibodies to fight off the HSV2 strain as well. Also, if you have a site infected with one strain you cannot become reinfected with the second strain in the same area. That being said, herpes is site specific. You can only spread herpes with contact from one area experiencing outbreak to another area that is uninfected AND has a scratch or other portal into the body. Herpes is thought to be related to the onset or activation of many serious illnesses including Bells' Palsy, Alzheimers and Bipolar.

Stress, nutrition, environment all are factors in managing outbreaks. When I had outbreaks I could 'feel' my skin tingling- it is during this time that you are most contagious and likely to pass it along to someone else. HSV will also be worse 'symptomatically' in people with compromised immune systems.

I contracted herpes 16 years ago. I first got a rash on my inner thigh. I get the outbreak about 5 times a year. The symptoms seem to be getting worse as I age. On my most recent outbreak I was in bed for an entire day with severe muscle weakness and fatigue. The rash on my leg did not ever blister. I felt flu-like symptoms as well. The doctors seem to be perplexed by the severity of my illness. One doctor said it was shingles and another said that the test showed I never have had shingles.
I can really tell if I start taking a new medication or if I am in allergy season. This is when I feel the worst. My whole body shuts down. My digestive system stops working, and I feel constipated. I am tired and have muscle and joint pain. I don't know what to do. I am hesitant to take the antiviral because I don't want to be on medication everyday.

Hi

I contracted genital herpes 27 years ago and the re-occurences made my life a misery.  I got many outbreaks, it wasn't unusual for me to get one outbreak per month.  Now some good news and maybe it will help you.  I've been living in Germany for 15 years just over two years ago changed my doctor.  She was recommened to me and also practices homeopathy alongside conventional medicine.  She suggested something called "Eigenblut therapy" which is basically taking some blood from me (from my arm) and then re-injecting it into my buttocks.  this is supposed to strengthen one's immune system.  It has certainly helped me, it's like a miracle.  I have my course of injections, and am more or less free for up to a year.  Am now onto my third time of having this and it's so worth it.  I hope this is of help to you.

I have outbreaks on my upper outer thigh all the time. I can feel it coming on by the itching and burning sensation. I usually just cover it up with ozonal and a bandaid, then forget about it for a week, then take the bandaid off or reapply another one if the blisters are not completely gone. I'v tried all kinds of other remedies and they all work pretty much the same.. I think the band-aid cover up works best... And I can live with that.

And i went to the doctors and she told me it was herpes/shingles. I got worried becuz i had never gotten that and she told me i have a virus in my skin and my immune system is weak... and she also told me i might have gotten this becuz of stress... and i do really worry and im always stiff not relax... and she also told me this is contagious so i can't not be touching that area or i'll spread... she prescribe me pills and told me too put ice on it. Like a frozen towell or a bag with ice in it.. n place it on top where the rash is...... But i would like to know more why ppl get a weak immune system cuz that's how shingles could form on ur skin..

my dad has herpes infection in his left leg with reddish blisters. he has severe throbbing pain in the whole of left leg and thigh and also in the lower left back and abdomen. he is not under antivirals as he presented lately. he has only been given pain meds and antibiotics to prevent secondary infection after 5 days of onset. he is under propoxyphene and paracetamol but these seems ineffective for the pain. are there any other pain meds which can be effective? can antivirals play a role now?

Acyclovir or Valacyclovir or Valtrex are the recommended antivirals and if you get a prescription, are very inexpensive in their generic forms.
Yes, you can get herpes on any skin surface, including the legs. You can also get ocular herpes. That's a very dangerous condition, so don't touch herpes sores and rub your eyes.
L-Lysine may or may not work. But if you are taking 6 1000 mg pills a day, it would be MUCH cheaper and more effective to try one 500 mg of Acyclovir, available from Wlamart (with a prescription) for about 10 bucks a month!

Just want to share my experience. I got herpes about 27 years ago at the age of 18. With the initial outbreak genitally I thought I was going to die, really sore in the genital region, could hardly move, stomach cramps, feverish. It was confirmed as herpes at the STD clinic.

I have since never had an outbreak genitally. It seems to over the years moved over different parts of my body. It started with an itch at the top of my foot that broke out. Then for the next 2 or 3 outbreaks would be in the same place. Then it started just above the knee, again the outbreaks continued in the same place for a couple of years. It's moved to my back near my bra line, also lower down my back sort of near my rear hip. I think it has also moved to inside my nose but this feels a lot different. Each attack used to be really painful before the outbreak as well, like the glands around the area felt sore and I would be really tired and achy.
I had another test about 12years ago from an outbreak on my back because my doctor didn't think this was herpes but it was confirmed again.

I too take Lysine, not every day but if I feel a bit run down. I think this has really helped as over the last 4-5 years I haven't had many attacks at all and if I do, they are not as painful and are shortlived.

I haven't read anywhere that others that have experienced these areas, I've only recently been seeing the sacral herpes but this seems to be around the buttocks and inner thigh which I have never had.

What I have read is that it can be spread by your towel but I was so careful whenever I had an outbreak I really doubt this.
I think it was just moving to another part of least resistance, once my body had finally stopped allowing it in one area??

Good luck everyone and stay healthy.
