For an initial outbreak, is it possible for both of your entire inner thighs to be sensitive (i.e. mid-thigh to almost knee) or is it just one spot? The literature is very vague about "inner thigh pain". I was worried that I was exposed, but seriously, the only part that is sensitive is rough near the knee on the inside.

Sir/Ma'am: I know this doesn't help, but the constellation of symptoms that you are describing does not make any sense in regard to your herpes infection. I am not a specialist, and everyone's immune system is unique, but I should tell you that "doctors seem perplexed" often translates to "this person is a hypochondriac or misrepresenting their symptoms". I would urge you to seek screening for depression and anxiety disorders. This may sound silly, but these sorts of broad-constellation symptoms often indicate depression whether or not the individual has more "common" symptoms of depression. Such patients often see alleviation or a severe reduction of these symptoms once they've begun antidepressant therapy. I've also read reports of meditation and mind/body work (both therapeutic to depression in some patients).

Specifically in regard to the herpes medication(s): These drugs work to interrupt the copying of viral RNA. Many classes of them have no side effects in 99+% of the population. Interference in viral RNA production for this virus does not interfere with the function of any of the cells in your body. A very few people may have an allergic reaction to some of the ingredients of the pills, but most other "side effects" that -- again, that only appear tiny percentage of the population -- occur are due to poor general health, such as not drinking enough water. I would suggest having another discussion with your physician, ideally the one that knows you the best, about the risks of the medications. They do reduce outbreaks dramatically and there is evidence to support that the more frequently outbreaks occur in a given period of time, the more likely they are to occur and they are likely to become more severe.

I wish you the very best of health.

I've had cold sores all my life and I'm 65 now. Every school picture, wedding pictures, anything that was slightly stressful, along with illness and sunburn and such, made those sores blossom. Upper lip, lower lip, both lips, one sore, a million little blisters, blisters running up to my nose, in my nose...
35 years ago my husband gave me a playful bite on the inside of my thigh, not far from my knee. The bruise he left looked just like his teeth marks, but the skin was not broken. He did have a canker sore starting up at the time. Some time later, I got cold sores in that exact same spot and again not long after that. I had it cultured - HSV-1. Canker sores are not caused by herpes. I had this eruption periodically for 10 years, close to the same spot, but migrating slowly following a nerve path. Eventually it got to where it was going and stopped...
HSV lies dormant in the spinal cord until triggered. Those triggers may not always be the same.
One of my sons was hospitalized at 10 months because he had a persistent fever for several days (fever of unknown origin). The thought was encephalitis, meningitis, a mystery. Not long after that he got chicken pox (same 'family' as herpes simplex) that developed into a primary herpes attack. He had cold sores all down his throat, his gums were mush and smelled like death, had to be held upright to sleep and it was horrible. In 33 years he may have had a handful of mild cold sores on his lips since.
These viruses can cause neuropathy, muscle damage, organ failure and never even develop into anything visible. I don't think this happens with generally healthy people, though.
Shingles are herpes zoster (same family as herpes simplex) but only people who've had varicella (chicken pox) or have been inoculated against varicella get herpes zoster, and like varicella, is not likely to occur again (unless not enough antibodies were made during that first event, or if they aren't working correctly.) Not so with herpes simplex.
It is important to fortify our immune systems until these viruses can be managed permanently.

Please research MMS "master mineral solution. Discovered by Jim Humble. I have been taking it for years for other issues. I know someone who has eradicated all herpes symptoms for more than 2 years now and people who went into remission regarding their cancer. The FDA won't move on the MMS because it will take so much money from Big Pharma. It literally is a miracle.

So I think it's only been in the last 6 months and with cold symptoms... I have not been sexually active in...lemme think here... more than 7 years, and he was only the second man I've been with, the first was 10 years prior to him. A rash develops on my inner thigh that feels like chafing, then within the day is a blister like a cold sore. I'm not skinny so have no thigh gap and this creates breaking open of the blister. This time my efforts to bandage it have only made it worse. What the hell is this?????

I am having genital/leg lesions. First I got a herpes diagnosis, but now the doctor thinks it might be a bacterial Folliculitis.
