Add a PeCid AC with the zyzytec, this really helps with hives. It works on acid reflux, but it also is a anti-histamine. WHICH works on the welt like hives that itch and hurt.

Thank you! This is the best advice out there.

NETTLE TEA!! This has given me tremendous relief, naturally, without horrible side effects from over the counter or prescription drugs. I too, have suffered on and off for almost 2 years starting with hives and progressing to angioedema (swelling of lips and eyes). The latter scared me when one time my larynx was affected and my voice was becoming hoarse along with more difficulty breathing. This can be a serious issue!! I didn't think nettle (or stinging nettle, etc.) would be strong enough although I had read about it at one point and felt like I tried almost everything under the sun. Would you know after a couple of cups my severe symptoms started going down. The next day I had a couple of more cups and they went away completely, hives and angioedema!! I've since learned that if I continue drinking the tea, even just one cup a day or even every other day, and have a nice jump start with it in my system before my pms, I don't experience ANY problems. I wasn't experiencing any symptoms for months! I slacked off this month (and think I'm starting to slide into menopausal land pretty soon) so now my periods are erratic making harder to anticipate when it's coming. Therefore drinking on a regular basis makes more sense. Please ladies, at least give this a try. It's worked wonders for me and helps tremendously with all allergies.

Hi, this cycle has to be the worse one in the past 2 yrs for me too. I am 45 yrs old. My eyes are swollen. I just took benadryl just incase it goes into my throat. The hives/rash are on my armpits, all over my neck and now on my face and eyes. I am going to try Nettle Tea. I hope it works. I am glad it worked for you. I will keep you posted how it goes for me. Sound so simple to just drink the tea!! Looking forward to doing this!!

Wooooowww! All I have to say is Thank you Thank you Thank to all of you so much for being so very detailed. I am 26 yrs old and I have been having chronic hives for about a year now. I too have been to numerous allergy appointments, stopped eating certain things, checked my soaps and detergents but could never figure out why I still have hives soooo bad! I took prednisone for a period of time and that did help, but they soon came back. I did not realize that it is extremely worse around my menstrual cycle. I will be trying the fish oil and some of the other things everyone mentioned instead of the steroid. I'm glad I am not alone. Thank you all!

I know this is years later, but I did find out - by coincidence, that I am allergic to nsaids (ibuprofen, aspirin, etc). Was extremely sick and hospilatized. They gave me a 600 mg dose of ibuprofen and I swelled up to the point I couldn't see. After healing, I tested it out again w/a low dose of 51 mg of nsaid. Sure enough, broke out in hives. Took 3 days before my reaction calmed down. Since dropping the nsaids, it has been so much better.

I have been suffering with hives and anaphylaxis for the last year. It started about a year ago when I got off of my birth control because I was having pains in my hands and chest. For the past year, I have been to dozens of doctors, urgent cares, and the ER several times. I was mostly told after dozens of tests, you are young and healthy. I was tested for autoimmune diseases, I was sent to two cardiologists, I have had xrays and sonograms and many thousands of dollars of medical bills with no answers. Finally, I demanded to my family physician that I needed answers because I could not function this way anymore and she referred me to a phenomenal allergist. His first assumption was that it was an autoimmune disorder in which he ran many tests and all came back negative. Then he did a food allergy test and found that I was highly allergic to 23 different foods, the next day he did the environmental and that test came back worse than the food test with nearly all of the fields marked as highly allergic....I have never had allergies before, not even severe allergies. However, the dr. put me on a food elimination diet for 3 months, and I lost 15 lbs, but still had horrible hives even on the diet. During this time, I noticed that my hives were terrible right before and during and a few days after my menstrual cycle. Embarrassed to ask, I hesitantly mentioned this to my allergist and so he ordered a hormone allergy test. The test showed that I was highly allergic to progesterone. Upon doing my own research, I noticed that women who suffer with an allergy to progesterone seem to me extra sensitive to other allergens which explains my other two allergy tests. The dr. put me on a estrogen high birth control and it greatly helped my hives!!! however, I shortly started to develop the pain in my hands and chest again after 3 months of being on the bc....so now the dr. has taken me off the pill. I am scared to go off the pill. I am hoping there is something else that can help the allergy to my own hormones other than a hysterectomy. any suggestions?

I have had chronic hives for five years now. My doctors have no idea what causes them. Antihistamines do not work for me at all. The only relief I have found is from using braggs apple cider vinegar with the mother. When the hives are getting bad before my period I have to use my vinegar pretty often, but so far it works awesome. I use full strength but when the hives are light I can use it diluted with water and it is still effective. It stinks when you use it, but when it dries there is no smell. I use a spray bottle to apply it and then rub it in my skin. Has your dermatologist tested you with progesterone for Autoimmune progesterone dermatitis? An injection with the progesterone may show if that is the allergy. It sucks to be allergic to our own hormones. :( I hope you find some answers soon, but try the vinegar it is saving my sanity.

Hi there, I too have hives - daily. mine don't seem to be attached to my period - of course no doctors are able to help I am allergic to antihistamine (cruel little joke) and cant take steroids because when the steroids are done the hives come back 10 times worse... this is my second run in with hives the first time lasted for 9 1/2 months, I was able to control my outbreaks with food however, this time not so much.. mine start in the evening get to where I am covered from head to toe and facial swelling lasts for hours and then around mid-morning go away or drop down to just a few here and there. I also have an epi-pen and cant work out... cant get too hot cant get too cold cant go out into the sun cant eat no hot/warm showers and lots of ice packs - Im exhausted, hungry and hopeless. I don't have any cool tricks, I take all those supplements and they don't seem to touch my issue. all my blood work comes back normal all the allergy tests say im not allergic to anything except the antihistamine (again cruel cruel joke) Im now into this round 4 weeks and like I said its daily - hives now run my life and I don't know when it will stop of if it will stop i'm 38 now the first time was when I was 35. I do appreciate your posts there is something that feels better knowing im not alone or crazy. I wish you all the cure I DREAM about often... thanks!

Hi,
I have also been experiencing hives before my period and recently I read that Black Walnut before with hives. By the 21st day I was clear of all hives and now I get very minor hives. Black Walnut mild bad bacteria in the gut. I use Black Walnut by Nature's Sunshine and am so much happier that I found something to eat the terrible itch! I went to the Dr. And had allergy tests only to have a large bill and be told I am allergic to nothing. I now the Black Walnut will work for you too.

Hello fellow hive sufferers! After two years of seeing immunologists and dermatologists and a lot of suffering and prayer and research I have finally found the cause of the horrific facial and body hives I was having since I was 38. I went to see a specialist doctor at a woman's clinic that specializes in integrated medicine which studies the cause of illness. I was desperate and I was certain it was hormonal as I noticed the hives ame regularly and I was also having night sweats and headaches and felt no sex drive. I was told by my gp my hormone levels were fine but eventually I found this specialist and went to see her as my face kept going bright red and I looked burnt and had wheals and it was such agony. She took one look at my pictures and said its insulin resistance !!! I was shocked but she said she had seen it a lot and especially in women in late thirties. She put me on a special diet avoiding sugar as much as possible and said no snacking at all. I am to have protein at breakfast and regular meals with protein and veg N only a little carbohydrates and fruit after if I want and sugar free yogurt. Insulin resistance occurs when the body decides to stop responding to insulin and so the body glucose levels keep going up during the day Nd the body tried to bring it under control and so send histamines out and hence an inflammation cycle occurs especially at night . I have now been on metformin once a day at breakfast to help slow the process of food conversion to glucose and also am avoiding sugar, all sugar and syrup and anything with it in except sugar free yogurt and drinks with meals. Now I don't even crave sugar and I only started this eight weeks ago. I have lost half a stone and now .hive free and sleep much better. It is amazing !! Try it and see. Look up Eric berg insulin resistance for a good video on u tube on it. I am now feeling my hormones are coming back. What no one realised is that insulin is a hormone and when the body is insulin resistance it keeps producing more and more insulin but the body downstairs respond and so women become deficient in oestrogen and lose libido and have night sweats and start to out on abdominal weight. I am taking some oestradiol gel which I rub on twice a day to help my body recover. In time , three or four months I should be able to reverse the insulin resistance completely!! Had I not gone to this specialist is would have ended up diabetic in a few years !! I am astounded at the difference ! Plesse please stop eating sugar and increase protein and the hives will go!!! My specialist is Miss Whitcroft at The Surrey woman's clinic in Guilford in the UK but there are lots of these specialists dealing with metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance throughout he world. Older Gps don't know about it. God bless you all x

I've been breaking out with hives since I was 13yrs old; I'm now 49. Drs can't figure out why I'm breaking out. I see a lot of comments stating when you were pregnant that you didn't break out; I was just the opposite, I broke out both times I was pregnant; the entire 9 mos & stopped after my delivery. Recently I've been breaking out for the past year; before this time; I broke out for 3yrs. They didn't go away until I went on an restricted diet; cutting out any food that was high in histamine. I think I'm going to try a full body cleasen; only eating raw fruits & veggies that are low levels of histamine.

Hello, I am 42 years old and I have had the hives for the past 5 years. Like alot of you ladies the hives started a few days before my period. They would cover me from head to toe and they would be huge. So I went to 2 different allergist who sent me to see a dermatologist, endocrinologist, hematologist who ordered a bone marrow biopsy because they were thinking I had mastocytosis. All my test came back normal. But I had to quit taking any allergy related medications. I WILL break out in the hives. I've also quit taking any pain relievers because I am still trying to weed out any reason to set off the hives. I finally went to see my gynecologist and she tells me it's my hormones. She put me back on birth conto pills. I had had an ID for the past 10 years. My hives still happen for no reason sometimes. I work 10 hour shifts and by the time I get home I will just itch all over, my feet get hives too. The itching drives me crazy and causes anxiety. I am sorry for all you ladies who suffer as I do. Thanks for reading :)

I've just started having Urticaria in May and it's now October. I know it could be worse but reading about this disease is so exhausting. Mine started after a walking through wet grass in flip flops which could be unrelated, for about 2 weeks I thought I had chiggers that wouldn't leave. Then my husband bought me Benadryl on a hunch and it worked until my period started and I had a severe outbreak. I thought it was from midol, an NSAID and now I haven't taken any medication for menustration since and I've been manageable since the doctor put me on prescription Zyrtec. That is until I started my period a week ago and my medication isn't working like it did. So now I think it's related to menustration, maybe even the first outbreak, I think I might have been on my period. But anyways I looked this up and I read there's only been like 50 reported cases of menustration induced urticaria so it's extremely rare but so many women here seem to have it, the medical community must not be covering this disease adequately. Also for the record, and much to the dismay of doctors every where, I've never taken birth control pills (and always credited this to my steady weight, happiness, and health). Me and my husband use coitus interruptus which has been very effective for us but we don't have accidents which I believe are other peoples problems with the method. Either that or I'm infertile but I think the odds are against it.
